I am conducting a review of DBS application providers and wondered whether anyone has any recommendations of companies providing online systems? I am obviously considering cost, fast turnaround and support. Has anyone else had an email with claims of 2- 24 hour turnaround? Is that possible?? - my last one took over 14 weeks!!! We have also recently requested that all staff apply for the update service within the next 18 months so I am now looking for a service that will enable us to check for any changes in status for all staff, without having to type in the individual certificate numbers one by one into the update checking screen on the DBS system. I'd like to press a b…

who appraises your support staff? you or FS leader? and who monitors quality of learning journeys etc. one of my 2 early years educators is not putting enough in hers e.g. only having one name-writing attempt in literacy since he began here in sept. i have given us all a sheet with minimum needed, which is one attempt at name, one piece of emergent writing and one letters and sounds post-it each half term. so what is expected of you, and what does FS leader do? ours is key 1 and FS leader and just focusses on key 1

I have a prospective new parent, who is especially nervous about her child starting at a setting......she likes ours as it is small, and isn't, as she puts it, 'one of those settings with 17 children, all on their own agenda and some with extra needs'!! Her child is 3.5 years old, is still carried everywhere and has never been left anywhere.not even alone with her father. She has been attending another setting for 2 terms, but mum won't leave her, even for a few minutes. So, initial look round seems to make her happy......mum as well......................and i have had an email from mum asking to see: Staff Code of Conduct Staff qualifications Behaviour policy..spec…

What are people (us lot) doing about Christmas party foods? We are a preschool, and all children donate one item of party food, this includes sandwiches Always worked well for us. Now - do we just continue as normal as it is a 'one off' event. or Ask only for pre-packed foods and not allow any home-made products (not that many of them usually are) Ask for the 'items' for sandwiches - then make them up ourselves? I'm more than happy to check the labels and tick off all allergens on the poster thing that I downloaded from a forum buddie :1b I'm just wondering if I'm over thinking it? We currently have no known allergies, with just one very mild intolerance.

I know this may sound stupid but a colleague as told me that a worker can be left alone with 4 two year olds......in old statutory guidance it said that there had to be two staff on duty at all time no matter how many children were in the session. I insist on being 2 staff on duty even if there were only 4 in the session/ ?????

Hello, can anyone help us with ideas on where to advertise for staff please? We have been looking for suitable candidates all term and have advertised with Reed, Indeed, Gumtree and local selling sites on Facebook. Most of the applicants don't seem to be genuinely interested in the job or else ones that do have let us down. We have part-time and full-time vacancies and have tried to be more flexible by offering a job share too. We have only had a handful of applicants for the full-time position. When we finally found someone and they accepted the job, they let us down the night before they were due to start, for a two day apprenticeship instead! We have a waiting list and…

I have an excellent practitioner (level 3) who is fab at her job. at her last supervision we discussed one of her key children. she is a three year old, who has been with us a year now. as a two year old she needed quite a bit of support and spent a lot of time with her key person, sitting on her lap and the practitioner got into the habit of carrying her around on her hip, the child is small for her age and is easy therefore to carry around. this was fine as she was settling in, although one of our policies does state that children should not be carried around. I feel the amount of time the child is now sitting with the adult and being carried around is stopping her…
