Morning all, Ok so I have been asked by our committee to have a measure up of the preschool and check our space requirements to see if we could increase our intake per session. Obviously in the past this was something we submitted to OFSTED and they would just come back and tell us how many children we could take. This is currently 29 children per session. Now maths is not my strong point but my calculations are saying that we could take 47 children! I'm pretty sure I must be doing something wrong. Our room is a rectangle measuring 14.85m x 9.43m. We have an office space measuring 3.7m x 5.68m that cannot be counted. Would anyone be kind enough the help me work this o…

Advice on starting a nursery
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi I am after advice on starting a nursery. I am in the very early stages, hence the lack of specific questions. I am really after pointers to sources of information and experiences, good and bad of anyone who has started one in the last few years. I am currently a qualified teacher with an Early Years specialism and have two years reception experience and two years in year one. I am in my forties which has its downsides but does mean I also have lots of sales and management experience and hands on building skills from a previous life which should prove useful. Ideally I would like to buy premises and combine a family home with a small (initially) nursery busines…

Good afternoon Just wondering how other settings are accommodating the EU law change this month? We understand that we will have to be able to start evidencing and proving what ingredients have been used, keeping food packaging etc. We are planning to attach food labels to our weekly menus and keeping them. But we have times (parties etc) where parents provide the food so obviously this won't happen - is anybody else facing this?? We are going to start with a ban on any homemade food from parents, like when they bring in birthday cakes etc, which seems a real shame - but can't see any way around that as you'd have to trust their word on the ingredients etc 100%. But pa…

Does anyone have a business plan i could look at, to get an idea of what i need to put in it?? They want two years plan, so costs involved etc, fee structure. It is a great oportunity and i think there will be lots of interest, so need the plan to be good............and we have had a relative admitted to hospital last night for end of life care, so chaos reigns right now.

Hi to anyone who leases premises but particularly if you lease from Arundel & Brighton. We have happily been trading for some years now, but our landlord has now created some new terms to our lease. On such term is do with our insurance. We have fabulous insurers who have been incredibly helpful, but they are just not able to comply with our Landlords conditions. Could I canvass which insurance company you all use please? I do not need contact details I can google for that. And/or if you have the same landlord as us would you mind PMing me, maybe I can work out why they have inserted this clause: "The Tenant shall maintain insurance for not less than £10,000,00…
