I have a level 2 who is a good worker at times but keeps saying she feels undervalued within the group. I give her positive feedback and try to help when she needs this. What responsibility do other level 2 workers do???? She has said that she wont do a level 3 course because she has to get her GCSE in Maths and English to do the course? Help please!!

Has any one been told what the pupil premium will be, come next April? We have, 53p an hour per eligible child. Not sure how much of a 'difference' we can make with that! Silly of me but was assuming they're might have been sufficient coffers to employ an extra..voice and pair of hands! Seems it will be a resource then....? Any suggestions?

Going round the bend trying to resolve this...... Next week I have to have a day off as my husband is going for an operation so I will be leaving two members of qualified staff to run the session. We have had an offer of help from a couple of parents as they want to go out to our field area with the children. I will have 11 over 3's and 1 under with the potential of 1 more under as the parent will bring her child. Can I include the parents' in the ratios or do I have to tell her she can't help? The parents' are on our committee so both have DBS checks. Also, on this subject, how do the ratio's change and by how much for outings. I can't find anything out.

Hi, I wondered if there was anyone willing to share any advice on what to do with a child who constantly bites other children? We shadow the child on a one to one basis as much as possible but you cannot keep your eye constantly on that child all of the time, this is a) Not fair on the other children in the room and b) it isn't always possible. We have had discussions with both parents (they are separated, but both care for the child) who seem to 'laugh it off' in a way.....please help, if you have any advice on how to work with the child and their parents to stop him biting whilst here. Thanks!!!

Been on a recent training course and the people who were running it said that reading comes before witing as listening comes before speaking... So I went back to setting and told staff that we need to concentrate on name recognition first and then when a child knows their name (can read it) then start the writing process. I have also told staff we need to include writing in every area and do lots of gross motor activities and then fine motor activities. I have a level 2 telling me that I am wrong that all the nurseries she knows are sitting children down to write their name at 2 and 3. I dont believe in getting hold off a childs hand and making his hand mov…

We are considering providing lunches as a reaction to the poor quality of food brought in lunchboxes by many of our children. can anyone tell us what effect that has on what we need to be doing in terms of food safety? Currently we only serve fruit and veg as a snack so haven't had to do much.

We are a pre-school that are paid for the hours we work i.e 1st - 19th December to take into account the time off over Christmas. I would like the wages to be changed so we get paid the same amount every month with only adjustments being taken into place. I hope you are still with me  I know the easiest way to do this is to times by how many weeks we work then divide by 52. But we get holiday pay for 4 weeks that have to be taken in August (so we get a wage packet then) but this is calculated on how many hours have been worked over the year, how long we have worked with the company etc..... So, how can we take that into account when working out a yearly salary.…
