It has been brought to my attention that a supplementary advice has been issued to schools as the statutory guidance from the DFE, detailing a requirement for childcare disqualification checks on staff now include anyone who lives in the same household. Apparently this has been in effect from 2009, it's the first I've heard of it. My question is should this also include preschools and nurseries.

I really don't know what to do or where to turn to other than here. While on maternity leave in 2012 it was agreed that the acting manager would become my co manager and we would take over the running of the setting from a charity to a community interest group. This was agreed without my input. We are two very different people and have different opinions on how the group should be managed. She's very assertive and I am not. Now things have come to a head and do we try and work through this, we'll never agree or do I walk? Can't afford to but nor can I see the setting I have worked so hard to change around since 2009 be destroyed by stubbornes. My heart ha…

Hi all..want a rant to those that I feel will understand. I am manager of a packaway setting. There are only 2 of us to run it (committee) and on our busiest day we have 15. Got a high proportion of SEND so lots of meetings ehafs to attend.I attend network meetings, training when I can and I also do finances and admissions. Its hard work as you know! So committee are now saying that they will pay me to set up, be at preschool.we are also only paid until the time preschool closes so if we havent managed to packaway or a parent is late!??They want to standardise my overtime payments for doing all the other bits. Not quite sure what sort of hours they are thinking of but you…

I filled in the ID verification bits yesterday for our new committee member, I've just had an email from Capita: Good morning, Security Watchdog have received a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) application form for the name given above. Unfortunately we are unable to process this application as we cannot submit DBS application forms for positions such as Directors, Headteachers, Committee Members, Owners, Company Secretaries, Chair Persons or Trustees; these positions must be carried out by OfSTED. You will need to log onto www.ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk and re-apply correctly. Please ensure you follow all the 4 stages listed on the website. If you require any…

Hi there, Looking for some advice.... I have been looking for a deputy manager as my previous deputy wanted to step down as didn't want to work additional hours when I go on maternity and was worried about the responsibility. I own the nursery and we have been open 18 months, we have 20 children at any one time between 2-4 years. We are a close team and the majority of my staff I have worked with before. I interviewed a male practitioner a month ago and he was fantastic in interview and his CV was glowing. I really felt that he was the one. I offered him the post but he told me that he had been offered a job for more money and to start as soon as his notice pe…

The following is a statement that I am reading time and time again on local mixed age pre-school setting Ofsted reports the leadership team have focused well on the areas for improvement identified at last inspection. However, the ongoing self-evaluation and action plans are not sufficiently focused on further improving teaching, learning and experiences for children. Is this as simple as staff going on courses? Teaching is mentioned on virtually every report that I read. what are your thoughts?
