Since all funding has been pulled from under us and the local authority system has taken a major impact from this I have been thinking of setting up a small area meeting for managers or area leaders etc, as we use to have these once per term run by the LA and as a setting we are very keen on supporting others and also learning from others. I attended our local schools moderation meetings and viewed their format and would like something similar - discussing issues, areas of learning comparing practice. My consultant was going to help me set this up but then because we have a good rating we now get no assistance whatsoever from the LA. My question to you all is if I invited…

Hi all, Have recently completed our Quality Improvement Plan with our LA and one of our targets was to implement peer to peer observations as part of our supervision. I started them today. My staff really got in a state about it - one was even up all night worrying about it! For the record, I am NOT a scary manager AT ALL. In fact I need to toughen up.... I feel the observations went well and I certainly saw the difference between my effective staff and my not so effective staff. My question is - how do you implement observations - do you give notice and time to prepare (I did) and how do you feedback? How do your staff respond?? Has it helped?

I am considering starting a Facebook page for the parents of my setting. I understand that I have to move with the times and use a method of communication which will reach my parents. I have thought about it for a long time and decided that a closed group site is the best option for us. Does anyone already do this, is it working and also does anyone have a policy regarding how the site will be used, who can post, what is/isn't acceptable? Please give me your comments.

What do settings do to evidence that they are being reflective from day to day in everything they do? I'm sure, like everyone, its what we do all the time but don't always evidence it, e.g. the conversation between staff about removing chairs from the playdough table because it encourages children to develop arm strength. I've thought about a kind of setting diary or journal where everything gets jotted down. Has that worked for anyone?

Hi I don't know if anyone can help ive looked on PLA and actually asked the PLA but........I own a preschool, it was a previous preschool but it is now a new company etc etc so effectively brand new. However I have all of the pwork form the old preschool @40 yrs worth! That preschool doesn't exist anymore so if I hadn't taken it over and then effectively closed it what would happen to the pwork? I have stacks of it! If I hadn't re-opened etc etc what would have happened to it all? I really don't want it all as I have funds to buy new equipment and this is taking up storage space. The PLA suggests that I keep as it is the old Preschools pwork, not really an answer in my …

I manage a day nursery. 2 girls in my pre school room are the very best of friends. ...indeed they are each others "rock".....however recently 1 of the 2 has been "picking" on the other one......not constantly and it appears to be totally unprovoked. The mother of the other child is become very concerned saying the child is crying in bed, not wanting to come to nusery and indeed she does start crying when mum takes her into her room. Mum will stay, trying to calm her down. We have spoken to both children particularly the aggressor in a way we hope she understands. Mum has spoken to me and my deputy separately saying she isnt happy. We have tried keeping the girls apart…

Hello Everyone The Nursery owner ( who is not childcare qualified or ever here) wants me to hold an open day during half term but our Nursery will be open with children in it!! I have tried explaining that we do booked showrounds with families (one at a time) twice a day but there would be lots of safeguarding implications if lots of people turn up to look around. Am I being silly about this? Does anyone else do an open day on a week day? Does anyone have any proof as to why this is wrong? Thanks so much everyone
