My full time staff get 20 days paid holiday per year plus Bank Holidays. I have a part time member of staff who works three days per week and doesn't work Mondays. Should she be paid for Bank Holidays?

Hi all We have been struggling for a while to get children into our setting. There has always been just the 2 of us. Now (4th year of being open) we have had a greater interest in spaces for 2yr olds! The government funding for 2yr olds has helped and we have a few that receive it. Now we have people wanting 2yr old spaces and we are running out of them, in terms of ratios! As I am the owner/manager my 'wages' are whatever is left each month after paying rent for the hall and my member of staff and at the moment I am taking £300 a month! No do I turn away 2yr olds wanting spaces and hope that we have some who want the odd sessions that are available, take on a new mem…

Hi Not posted for aaaages so hoping you all had a good summer. I've been asked if a child (who left us in July) can attend preschool for the first week back as he is not starting primary school until the 8th. Is this allowed? I realise we can't get any funding but if the parent is willing to pay for his sessions are there any legal reasons why we can't let him have a place for that week? Anyone know. It is a bit of a pain but I feel that we would be helping the parent out with childcare if we can do it.

Hi all We go back to pre-school on Thursday and last week I was told one of children's dad has been admitted to hospital with a brain tumour, he will be needing an operation and most probably chemo and radiotherapy. He has been told it could affect his memory and his eyesight too. The little girl is only 3 and she knows her daddy is poorly in hospital and they will make him better. She hasn't been to visit him yet. I have never had to support a child in this situation before, so any advice would be most welcome! Thanks

Just wondered, does anyone have bank staff that they give contracts to. We have an ex member of staff who is taking a break, but will come in as and when we need her, what, if any, kind of contract does she need. If you do issue a contract or similar, I would love a cheeky sneaky peak!

Hi everyone We are currently overhauling our Learning Journeys, we are looking at how much evidence should be included, currently working on at least 2 observations per child per month (more if significant information) but how much are Ofsted looking for? Thanks in advance xx

Hi I have recently taken over as Manager of a nursery...that is a tale in itself! However, there are a number of things that aren't in place that I know should be in place, but I am beginning to doubt my own sanity so I will be asking you lovely people for clarification on some things I think just for my own peace of mind!! Just for starters....... Am I right in thinking that DBS/CRB certificates should NOT be kept on site but just the date an number logged? Is it compulsory that they are renewed every 3 years or is it just best practice? ALL staff must do generalist safeguarding training with at least the manager and deputy having specialist (designated persons) saf…
