My third in charge is an EYP, she maybe more qualified than my deputy and myself but she has much less experience. She keeps saying that she wants to put her qualification to better use. She is a key person, takes the lead in planning for letters and sounds and as i said above is third in charge. I feel that she needs to get more experience in the setting, but want to encourage her enthusiasm too. She is a little to child initiated and isn't good at setting firm boundaries. Any suggestions?

I have been looking at QA schemes and wondered if anyone has experience of the NDNA's E-Quality Counts or the PSLA's Reflecting on Quality. Both look good but are expensive £977 for NDNA (I have just become a member) and £517 for PSLA so it's quite an investment. If anyone has undertaken either, what did you think? What sort of impact did it have on your team / practice / Ofsted rating / popularity with parents etc? Was it worth the money?! Thanks in advance.

Hi, I sometimes come to think why staff have a attitude of not being bothered. Only when a member of management steps into the room they start to talk or interact with the children. This has been addressed to staff that their attitude and work ethic needs to change, however some just seem to slip back into old habits. From the lack of interest in planning (not understanding the need to plan for the interest of the child) to general practice of putting items away in the correct area instead of dropping it in another box! New resources are arriving however I have no confidence that the staff will treat these with care. I don't know why they have this…

So our new Education Minister says that we must not encourage extremist views, must not teach creationism as scientific fact and must teach tolerance of other faiths, sharing and right from wrong. Oh and Ofsted will be inspecting us against these criteria.. Thoughts? xx Here's the link: http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/nursery-world/news/1145873/nurseries-teach-children-british-values-lose-funding?utm_content=&utm_campaign=Copy%20of%2008.08.14%20NW%20Update&utm_source=Nursery%20World&utm_medium=adestra_email&utm_term=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nurseryworld.co.uk%2Fnursery-world%2Fnews%2F1145873%2Fnurseries-teach-children-british-values-lose-funding

argh!!!!!! When an applicant doesn't put their previous employer as a ref but they tell you in interview that they never finished their probation at their last two jobs because 'it just wasn't for them!!!!' Please share your stories ....did any of you take a chance on somebody and they turned out a real gem or a real nightmare?

A place where nursery owners, new nursery owners and those starting out or thinking of starting out could convene and support one another and learn from the seasoned folk of this group..... I think it would be great! Because currently we only privately message or post intermittently between the frantic world of setting up and posting....and then there's losing the post or missing out on a discussion about setting up......sorry going on and on.....can you tell I am desperate! hahahahaha!!!!!!
