I am the manager of a small setting on domestic premises.we got OUTSTANDING in February on our first inspection. It could be fraught at times as we were operating in the proprietors house, not much privacy for her, However despite ups and downs and sometimes in fact a lot of the time it was difficult to be the manager, we were making it work the children were happy. On Wednesday I went to work and left about 1.45 at 5.45 I had a voice mail from the owner to say don't come into work tomorrow as I am closing as of midnight tonight. I was in total shock parents, were left completely in the lurch most parents are working . There was no explanation 3 sets of parents went to …

We have just got back from a briefing on the changes to the SEN legislation. It was mostly aimed at schools but the Early Years settings were invited so we went. We were told various things but one of them was that we have to make public statements to parents about the SEN services that we offer. Happy to do that but no idea how to really. Do any Early Years settings already do this and do you have a template for us to have a look at.

I have signed to the Gateway this morning, to put my SEF on line - result Its a very long, long time since I've been on the Gateway but I thought there would be more available to me than just putting on our SEF Can anyone tell me what else you can do on the Gateway .... I thought I'd read on here that you can fill in a EY2 form? I also thought I'd read you can update the EY0 form to ensure that the committee list is correct? Or have I dreamt all of this??

Hi all, The regulatory inspector came today to investigate the complaint the parent had made regarding the child with behaviour issues at our nursery which I posted about last month. It is finally over - the case is closed. She was completely satisfied with what we were doing in the setting and said we were doing over and above what can be expected - I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to hear. My strongest piece of advise I can give anyone in the same situation is to document everything, log all your communications and contact Ofsted with your concerns. It is only because we contacted Ofsted before the angry parent did that we prevented a full inspection. It was…

If you have a level 3 in the room and there is free flow do you need a level 3 inside and 1 outside? Our staff are having a big discussion about this today!

I have been working at a committee run charitable pre-school for 10 years. I have a fantastic team of staff who all go above and beyond to give the best care and education to the families that use the setting. As time goes by it is becoming increasing difficult to motivate parents to join the committee and of those that do volunteer, the majority do so in name only. Our numbers are good, raising throughout the year, and are looking good for next year too. It will soon be time for our next AGM when the current committee members will leave and the chances of me signing on replacements are minus zero!!!! Each year I am in this position, it is soooo frustrating and at …
