Only because it puzzled me when I was trying to work out my operational days for next school year, and it might help someone else....2020 is a leap year so schools may have an extra inset day. Apparently, other schools are dividing up their hours in other ways. I couldn't work out why some schools have four days, others five (?) and another only had three. Cheers, Honey.

Hello Just looking for different viewpoints really as the EYFS is a bit vague when talking about a Named Deputy. EYFS states 'The provider must ensure there is a named deputy who, in their judgement, is capable and qualified to take charge in the manager’s absence' Question 1-Am I right in thinking a Deputy must have a minimum Level 3. Could staff working towards a Level 3 (on the course right now) be a named deputy?? I'm guessing not. 2-Does the role of Deputy need to be a formal job title or could the Manager delegate on the day to a member of staff she deems suitable and qualified (ie Level 3/experience/able to lead the team). We are a small…

Wow. I've just had a play around with figures and the new NMW increase is terrifying! Our setting normally has a very healthy bank balance but a quiet start earlier this year is taking its toll a little. I've just worked out (roughly) that our wages cost is probably going to increase by £3k every four weeks. How is that possible.! Secretly hoping I've fudged up my figures as I'm not great with forumlas and our bookkeeper/treasurer have a different way of seeing it. How are other settings dealing with the increase. We have 10 staff. Our cleaner, 2x unqualified staff and 2x level 2 staff will both need increasing by the statutory amount. The others …

We have a small gate enclosing garden which is bolted which leads to steps and the big gate which opens onto the pavement and road. A child opened both gates and got onto the pavement. A member of staff was right behind him so he didn't get far. I suspect I know the answer to the question but do I report or not?

Hi We are just about to open a baby room at my nursery and the room that the babies will be in does not have running water as it is a separate unit to our main nursery. Can anyone confirm if it is a statutory requirement to have running water in that room, we have in the main nursery. I have looked at the guidance and can find no mention of it. Does anyone else run like this and does anyone have any ideas how to make it work as I am looking at the portable sinks but these are quite costly.

I run a preschool for children aged two to five and I'm a member of the NDNA. I'm about to renew but wondering if I should go EYA. Any views?

Hi Everyone! I am looking for recommendations for nursery management software. I need something that will allow myself & my deputy to access it on different devices, from different places, potentially at the same time, and will keep everything updated. I need it to do registers, class lists, waiting lists, future bookings, invoicing, funding, staff rotas, staff holidays, etc. I've seen some that will send out emails or even texts to all parents and this would also be useful. I've looked at a few and quite like e-manager (e-log). However I would like recommendations. It needs to be easy to use for people who are not very techie! Thank you for your help.

Hi all i wonder if you have come across or heard of sharing policies with parents that have either already left or are not registered to start. A parent started their child with us but would not leave their child to settle without them (despite have been through the settling process). During this time they observed a staff member enacting the behavioural policy on a child and decided that wasn't something they agreed with and so took the child out of nursery. They did feedback to us what they had seen and we subsequently investigated the situation, the outcome of which was that the policy had been followed. The parent is requesting the investigation outcome…

Quick question, haven't recruited for a while and just wasn't sure about the English and Math qualifications status. I have a lady applied with a Level 3 who has 20 years experience of running a Pre-School but she doesn't have any other formal qualifications can I consider her for a job.
