Good evening everyone, just dropping by hoping for a bit of advice. The children made this fab creation yesterday with long bits of ribbon. I wasn't in session until lunch time so am not sure how when or why. But I thought it was fab, took a picture and shared it on Facebook. I have since had a parent, a family member of mine, ring me at home asking if the ribbon is long enough to go round the children's neck. I explained whilst it was long enough, to be honest so are the strings used for threading, that they weren't always out and when they are, they are closely watched. She didn't seem too impressed with my response, and I am expecting more from her tomorrow at dr…

Hello all l interviewed a lovely lady, she has not worked for 19 years due to raising her own children. She has the above qualification, is it a level 2, she qualified in 1999. The problem now is to apply for a level 2/3 she has to pay because she is over 21. She also last worked in a nursery 19 years ago just for 2 months. l really want to give her the opportunity, but not sure of the qualification,as to whether it is recognised.

I have a member of staff on maternity leave (well actually three members of staff, but that's another story!) who I don't think will return to work. I have employed someone to cover her maternity leave, but things are not going that well and I don't want to offer her a permanent post. Assuming the person on maternity leave says she's not coming back, how soon can I let her maternity cover go? She was originally employed to cover one person's maternity leave, then moved on to another maternity cover but hasn't got an official 'end date' as we were unsure when people would return to work. How would you handle this one? Thanks in advance.

Hi 3.50 Accidents Can I ask do you record every bump or fall. Sometimes we have just spoken with parents as there was no injury or just a little red mark. Should we record everything? 3.52 managing behaviour states we must keep a record of physical interventions. Can anyone clarify is that picking a child up through to restraining?

A staff member was pulled over by a child today. When she fell she hurt her thumb. Went to hospital and having an X ray tommorrow. Just thinking ahead. If she can't work would you pay her? Know she will say it was not her fault. Well not my fault either. Thanks in anticipation Buttercup

Hi lovely people, I have my registration visit this week and am just making sure I've got all the 't's crossed and 'i's dotted. Have been working through the ofsted 'Preparing for your registration visit' booklet and one of the questions asks 'how will you make sure you meet the space requirements?' - my understanding was that ofsted don't now give a set number of children you can be registered for? (At the settling which I've taken over it was previously 28, but the previous owner had a letter saying that there was no longer a set number) So does the space requirement simply mean the guidance that 2s have 2.5 square metres and 3s/4s/5s have 2.3? Don't worry I'm no…

Hi My management have asked as we have a few new staff if I could do a mock inspection. Has anyone done one before or could give me any help formulating what to do or have a pro forma. It would be a way of looking at quality of practice and provision at the same time. Ever hopeful Skippy :-)

....to act as a key person? We are advertising for a pre-school assistant and we need someone who can come straight in and work as a key person. I have had an applicant who sounds just lovely, she is very experienced but has no qualification - does it state anywhere that you need to be qualified? She is eager to qualify as soon as possible.........
