Hi All I'm looking for some advice form those of you who have children who sleep at nursery. We have a separate sleep room for our babies but in our toddler room and 2-3's room, the children sleep on low level beds or mats. In order to fit all the beds in, we have to push our resources and equipment to the sides of the room, we leave a table out in 2-3's and put out calm activities for any non sleepers, (in toddler rooms they all sleep), however, our Early Years Consultant has said that we shouldn't really do this as it takes away those areas for the children who are not sleeping, this is usually only 1 or 2 children but I can see what she is saying, that over sleep …

Dear all, we're temporarily moving to a pack away setting in September. Do any other pack away settings have to move tables and stack them out of the way before using the space? We have a room that 10 tables could be moved into but we are concerned about the staff having to move then also, whether they can be stacked - this room will not then be used for the week. Tanles will then need to be brought out for use by another group at the week end. Thanks

Upright posts..safety surfacing

Hi there, we have a number of upright posts holding up a gazebo..however the base is rotten and we will be taking it up and putting down fake grass. Firstly, can we just put fake grass down on top of the mud/weed suppressant, or do we need a safer surface underneath (I am hoping not as cash is short). Secondly, do the wooden upright posts need a covering to make them safer? Thank you, Spiral :-)

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help please? We are a pre school with a morning session and an afternoon session. We don't provide lunch for the children it is two totally different sessions with a totally different group of children in the morning session to the afternoon session. We currently offer 2.75 hours per session for our funded 3 to 4 year olds and the same hours for our funded 2 year olds and the same hours for fee paying parents. We are considering offering the full 3 funded hours to our parents but are only discussing it at the moment before the committee make a final decision. Our start of the day would change by fifteen minutes and all my team have said th…

Hi guys, just had a text from member of staff, she's had a text from a grandparent, her daughter wants to make a formal complaint about a child who scratched her Childs face today. Any thoughts would be appriciated, i can't remember the last time we had a complaint but don't think there's ever been one against a child. Our Senco has said there is no concern about him although I'm not sure that's right, but that's another story.

Hi I'm looking for some advice about how monitoring visits are conducted? After a heart-breaking inadequate inspection result (haven't got the report yet as inspection was 2 weeks ago) we have put in place a development plan with what we think we need to address, we will jig this around when we get the report. We've set up a task force with the LA and looked started booking visits and training, however, I have no idea what to expect from the monitoring visit. We've been told it will be within 3 months, I presume its unannounced but I don't know for sure? I sincerely hope for all your sakes that none of you have ever had to go through this but if anyone has can…

We would like to introduce an IPAD at playgroup for the children to use with supervision and selected educational apps. Am I right in thinking we should should send out a permission letter to parents before we start to use. We will add to our ICT policy and our permissions on our registration forms. Many thanks!

Morning Sat here on a Sunday morning after spending a couple of hours updating my LJs and thinking "there must be a better way!" Have read through some of the Tapestry info but have questions about the practicality if those that use Tapestry don't mind answering. I love the idea that the obs are so instant rather than me having to print everyone's pics at the end of the week then them sat there until staff have time to write up the obs (which they do at home as we don't have allocated time during sessions). We are a preschool with maximum 25 in session with 4 or 5 staff and only have one tablet which I only use for staff/peer observations at the moment. If staff are t…
