Job description for Deputy

I am re-writing my Deputy's job description (with my deputy), but we were wondering what are your most valuable aspects in a job description? For instance, is it sufficient to state that one of the aims is "to implement the EYFS 2012 Statutory Framework and subsequent changes"...or should this be expanded upon a bit more ....and if so, how? Thank you, Spiral :-)

I'm considering options for securing church hall garden area which is open on one edge about six metres in length. I've just done search on this but wanted to know what colleagues in hall settings have by way of fencing for outdoor areas, specifically height. Appreciate your comments. Marsha

Are you a member of the National Day Nurseries Association? I am thinking of joining but wondered if anyone could tell me what they think the benefits are. Do you find being a member useful and worth the membership fee? Thanks!

Policies & Procedures

So I know that we all need them in nurseries and the answer to my question is probably 'how long is a piece of string' but is there a "good" amount when it comes to how many policies you should have in place and are there some policies that seem like a good idea but are probably just not needed? Has anyone written their P&Ps from scratch and knows of any where online that can support writing policies? I know the first step is to read through my current P&Ps and see what it really needed but then it gets to a point when I think everything is needed but it's a pretty hefty document and it's coming to a point when I need to revise what is really needed. A…

Seperate Baby Room

Hello! I'm the manager of a nursery that has a separate baby unit. The problem I'm facing is that at around 12pm all the babies are sleeping and it's time for staff lunches. Due to the baby room being a separate building it proves to be very tricky to keep two members of staff in there when all the children are asleep. We have come up with a solution of having a video and sound monitor on so only one member of staff needs to be in the room while the other goes on lunch (the other end of the camera is with me in the office) however I'm not sure if this is enough safeguarding or if two members should be present even though all children are asleep. Does anyone have a…

Hi all, We have just employed a member of staff who proved herself whilst working as a parent volunteer, she is just about to start her level 3 as well. I am sending out reference requests but the problem I have is that she has not been employed for a long time (stay at home mum previously) and so the typical reference sheet I have seen before isn't really relevant as she hasn't got an employment history as such. What would be a suitable reference request to send? Thanks for your help xx

Hi All, We are due an inspection any minute, I am aware that under the new frame work the inspectors will ask me as manager to observe staff practice and rate it. Does anyone have any experience of this and would anyone have a template for monitoring practice/ staff obs sheet that they would'nt mind sharing? Any help or advice would be much appreciated, this will be my first ofsted as manager and feeling rather nervous. Thanks

weebly website linking to Google-how?

Ok I am really chuffed with myself that I finally managed to create a website using Weebly but I am now struggling to link it to Google. I want to be able to put in keywords so that when someone searches Google (and other search engines) my website comes up. Doing it via Weebly seems very expensive. I am not tech savvy so a very simple explanation would be great.

How do you cope with children who just simply don't turn up? I have two this term. One of them I can't get a hold of at all. His SEN too so hot SENTAS team on his case but it's so hard with him not legally needing to be anywhere. Our LA will give funding for 4 weeks once notice is given but when no notice is given what do you do? I have not seen him since Feb? One is having family issues and asked me to keep his space open but again no contact at all this half term. Do I just contact council and say they have given their notice? Or wait?
