Hi Are any of you running pre-schools that are registered charities? If so, what does it involve? and what are the benefits of being registered? At the moment I own my pre-school as a sole trader and employ my staff. We are looking at becoming a charity as we have been told we would be able to apply for more grants etc. But I would like to know what it involves as its taken a long time for me to get the business where it is now. I have tried looking on the internet but it all seems a bit confusing! Thanks :1b

I have posted in the past about one of our children who has downs syndrome and is constantly biting other children and staff. We have lost 2 children already because of this. We have since put him on 1-1 care but as a PVI we cannot continue to fund this. He now has a statement to cover 10 hours but it doesn't cover all our costs. We have asked the parents to pay for the extra costs incurred to provide the 1-1 care - they are now challenging this and saying what we are doing is illegal. We have tried getting advice from various agencies but no one seems to be able to help us can anyone help????

I have just been completing the paperwork for a child to be referred to children s social care and i feel crap ! I have never done this before and i have put all my energy into completing the form accurately and to the best of my knowledge so that i get my point across without offending the family. I know it needs doing as early intervention is the key, but i still feel so sad for the family. I am having a meeting with the family in the morning, the meeting is to inform the family of my referral. I am sure they are going to be shocked and angry, but i so much want to be able to help them. I really don't know what to say to them tomorrow or even how to start t…

Just looking for some advice... any advice  I took over as Pre-School supervisor a year ago, the staff team were/are very established having all been there a long time, it was tough and not all staff members were on board as i made changes, The committee were very supportive and promoted the only staff member on board to Deputy. However in the last few months she has become an absolute nightmare, doing the most ridiculous things, things that are just an ounce of common sense would make any normal person cringe, Her assessments are shocking, observations don't even have dates on them???? I asked her to change a nappy which she did but the mother arrived the followi…

We are having issues! Anyone else? I have been demanded into removing storage units that have been in place 4 years as permission wasn't granted! It was as was part of the capital access grant! I have to remove all displays as they want no sense of ownership in the rooms! I have to remove any item from the premises that does not fit under the stage - impossible to have anything as it's so small! I have massively worried about a child coming in with additional needs who has a large chair that needs stored but won't fit into any of our storage due to size The other local preschool have been told they have no premises from September either as the vicar…

With the cook from our nursery, I am looking to review all the recipes we use for the children's lunches. We needs to reduce ingredients costs, have simple meals so we can reduce preparation time and still make sure they are healthy - a tall order! I wonder if any of you have any favorite recipes you would be willing to share? Many thanks

HI all I am asking for advice again (it is just one of those years!!) ok so I have just discovered that one of my staff is not doing well with her learning journeys. After years of doing things properly she is suddenly not. Six months ago in moderation all her files were fine, now they are in a mess. I have found out that she is not connecting ANYTHING!!! on paper, so progress trackers, observations, ecat forms are all not tying up the assessment grades are all over the place. This is the same for all 8 files!!!! when you talk to her all the knowledge is there and she seems on top of things, we do moderation as a team and she is grading the same then as everybody e…
