Morning all I'm after some inspiration With doing our termly supervisions now I feel like I'm continually meeting with staff and ironing out problems even more quickly - which is obviously a positive thing Next month we have our annual appraisals with the Chairperson and now feel as if there's hardly anything to talk about! So any new ideas?!

Hello, a bit of a random question but I have been thinking about day nurseries and similar organisations and am trying to find information or research which explains why children are grouped by age range. Apart from the obvious ratio's that are legally required is there any other reasons why they are organised like this? Do you know of any settings which organise the care for children by different groupings? I'm thinking of mixed age/ability groups that stay with each other for longer period of time...therefore reducing the need for transitions within the typical nursery/school yearly cycle. Any ideas welcomed received!

We have a hearing impaired child attending. We are supported by an advisor who visits occasionally. Not sure what advice she should be giving us.We tell her if this child is having any difficulties in any areas she notes it and just lets us continue to support the child. She uses her sound meter many times throughout her visit. The measurement today was 60,I thought that the noise level was average bearing in mind that we had 36 children between the age of 2 to 4 years and 7 adults. We have 4 focus activities per day done in small groups. Other children engaging in free play.We were indoors because today because we were waiting for contractors to come and shred large felled …

How do other settings handle staff absence for looking after their own children. Have a part time staff member who has constant time off due to her child's sickness this is alongside her own sick days.It is becoming difficult to get cover at often short notice other staff have started to complain. Supervision meetings are due I will have to address this just wondered if anyone has a word of wisdom or too.

Looking for some ideas from you lovely people! We have just had our parent questionnaires back and whilst most of it was great (yay!) some of the parents have said that they would like more info on what their child has done during the day. We are a pre school with 45 children each morning. Pick up time is not a great time to chat to each and every parent. We have a daily activities sheet which is out in the foyer and if possible we try and share what we can as the child leaves but we're looking at other ways to do this now. I used to work In day care where we would share daily diaries at pick up time but this isn't practical for a pre school setting. Any ide…
