Can I ask have any of you ever stepped down from manager to being a deputy? I am considering this as a move as I no longer feel able to give enough to every aspect of the job and now have the chance to take on the SENCO role which I have always been interested in. I can't add it to a long list of the things I don't have time to do, so would rather concentrate on that in the future.

Hi Everyone Would you kindly give me your opinions on this : Parent contacted us by email to ask about a place for her child with physical disabilities. We emailled back asking more about the equipment used (squiggle chair and Ormesa bug) So I spent some of last weekend looking into them and considering whether we could accommodate his needs. Unfortunately we have 3 steps to the outside area which is how we evacuate the building in case of fire etc. Therefore we replied that we could not offer a place due to this. Today we received another email from parent asking to see our Inclusion policy and so we referred her to that, our admissions policy (which states we conside…

Hi forum friends I am interested to discover how other settings apply this. We are currently exploring all our policy documents with, parents, committee and staff. At the moment we apply a D.O.B waiting list, this has always enabled families moving into the area access to our facility and of course trying to be fully inclusive for all. We are very fortunate presently in having a very healthy interest in coming to us, which of course is fab. However our dilemma now is: we have parents that were never going to send them anywhere else and have had their child's name down almost since birth( often third or even fourth child). We have parents just arriving on our door requi…

Just wondered what every one else is doing. We are a playgroup and offer sessions for 3-4 yr olds 3, 4 and 6 hrs each day. our 2yr olds get 2 hrs tues, weds or thurs 1-3pm. With the introduction of 2 yr funding we are required to offer a minimum of 2.5hr sessions and up to 15 hrs per wk. We cannot do this without messing up what we provide successfully for our 3/4 yr olds. We are being pushed and pushed. We are not a nursery. yes we do offer places for 2 yr olds but it is more of a getting used to playgroup session. We do not have the facilities or room for anything else. What are others doing? buttercup

Hello I am new to Nursery management and just have a quick question. I hope that you can help me! We are an independent nursery and we also have a before and after school club for our nursery children and the local primary school children. In the after school staff we always have at least 2 members of staff that are level 3 which keeps us in the correct ratios etc. My question is we also have 2 unqualified staff in terms of paper and certificates, however they both have over 15 years experience! These 2 staff have been told by someone else that they are not allowed to change a childs nappy as they are not level 3 qualified. All I have in our policy is tha…

Hi there, I'm currently studying foundation degree and have a lot of young nursery worker staff doing the course with me, whom seem very stressed with what goes on in their settings baby room. I know the ratio says 1:3 but this surely isn't applied to those under 15months ? ie not walking. Interested to know how you manage this in your nurseries and surely the most experienced staff are required with the youngest ? im a childminder by the way ! thanks

Hi Our renewal for membership with the PLA is due at the end of the month, however, we are slowly moving forward, towards becoming a Community Interest Company as we feel committee run pre-schools are a thing of the past. It will be much easier if we are no longer with the PLA and adhered to their rules and regulations... but we will need to find independent insurance. Do any of you have suggestions who we might try? Many thanks x

Hi all Just come back from some training (which was quite good for a change ) but I cant help feeling as manager every time I turn around I have more jobs and more paperwork. I am finding it quite a challenge to keep on top of running the sessions and then doing all the manager bits on top. I have stepped out of ratio for two sessions in the hopes this will help but I still don't seem to have enough time. This training course today showed me that I may need to do more paperwork and I can see a reason for this but feel I am sinking. An impromptu discussion also happened within the training around committees. They were saying that it is vital we make committees awar…
