This has been mentioned in previous threads about wages but, I've just discovered that our wages are a mess. If I give you an example it will be easier than trying to explain it. £per hr x hrs per week x 4 = wages per month. £per hr x hrs per week x 4.6 = holiday pay. Added together and split into 12 equal monthly payments. When worked out though, the hourly rate doesnt meet the minimum wage over 12 months even though its above it if calculated as 38 weeks. Does this mean staff arent paid min wage even though they are seeing as they dont work all year? The accountant has never said anything but I'm worried now!

Random question but where do you change nappies when you take children to the park for example? We have a pub we could use, but the girls asked me the other day if they could use there, but to be honest I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

Hi All, I am looking at ways to boost staff morale and enthusiasm. I have some staff who go above and beyond the call of duty and who are constantly going that extra mile while others are happy to just sit back and do the bear minimum. I'm thinking of implementing a 'team member of the month/half term/term' with some sort of monetary reward (gift card??) as way of recognising staff effort and a way to perhaps motivate others. Has anyone any experience of this? What criteria do you use? Do staff vote by secret ballot? Thanks for your help

I am looking for a good home for an OHP. Would anyone living in West Devon, Tavistock or Launceston area be able to make use of it? It was working when I checked it about 2 months ago.

I run a pre-school from a village hall and have just heard that we need to have a performance licence as we play music during the session. This is usually on pre-recorded cd's. I was not aware that we had to have a licence as we are not doing it for a paid audience etc. I would like to hear from other members if they have come across a similar issue and what the costs maybe?

From Nursery World: An Ofsted spokesperson said, ‘When we receive a complaint about an early years provision we consider it very carefully. We look at each case on its merits, in line with our published risk assessment process, and if we believe it to be necessary we will undertake a full inspection. That is what parents expect. ‘It is not the case that a single complaint will automatically lead to a full inspection. That has been the case for some time. ‘However, Ofsted will no longer routinely inspect early years provisions at the end of a compliance investigation. Instead, we will do this when we believe it is required.’

Hi I've just taken on EYFS Lead for 1 Reception class and 2 nursery rooms (full days and sessional rooms). Total 60ish children. We take children from 2yrs 9mnths. I'd like to set up a system of tracking individual children's progress against the DM statements which would follow the child through FS. I've looked at the computer based trackers but don't think that's what I need as I'm not sure the Teaching Assistants and nursery staff will be confident in using them. Plus they wouldn't be able to work on the trackers at home. Plus they have very little knowledge of the DM statements. I just need a good old fashioned highlighting pen system! Before I set about making my…

Hi all What are your views regarding long hair being kept tied back? I have firm views that it should be but maybe I am too strict? What do you think?
