We have a term time only playgroup and an Out of School Club at the moment. The staff overlaps a bit but they have different managers to specialise in both areas but only one registration with Ofsted. Some children (3 and above) attend both. The Out of School Club manager wants to start a holiday club and this would mostly be for the school age children but a few 3 year olds would probably want to attend. My question is, if we have an Ofsted inspection in the holidays will it be a Holiday Club inspection, or an early Years inspection. Would they staff be expected to be doing everything we do in term time in relation to assessment and observation of the EYFS children? O…

I am faced with the enormous task of making sense of the DBS system. We are now at a stage where we need to put our policy on DBS into writing. However, I am struggling to understand the Ofsted document on it. I feel that it is open to a lot of misinterpretation. I am keen to know if anybody has a policy that they would be happy to share. I can see lots of school ones on the internet but not many ones specifically to nurseries. I am also keen to know how nurseries are managing the payment of the checks particularly the update service. If you are asking your staff to pay for all or part of the checks or update then are you recording this in your staff contracts??? …

Hi Can I ask is the hourly rate received for funded 3/4 year olds a set national rate or is it determined by the local authority? If by the local authority is it then the same across all settings or does it vary? I thought it was national following on from a conversation with a few other professionals however now doubting whether it is or not due to someone saying the hourly rate varies depending on the setting

Any recommendations for non-staining ready mixed paint in 5l containers? We currently buy the Classmate brand from Hope but it stains. Possibly, a non-staining paint does not exist  However, recommendations for brands that stain the least would be very welcome. Many thanks.

Hi, I have had a parent asking if I can change my invoices to show how many hours FE they have left each month.............I usually simply tell them they have used x hours of FE this month and it made me wonder if I should be doing this. Do any of you do your invoices this way and if so, would you be willing to share a copy please?( and yes, I could just write........X hours free of charge, leaving x hours.............parent wasn't exactly clear on why she wanted it, as I have explained at the outset that they receive a different amount each term, depending how long each term s and if they are in any doubt, they can look on LEA website

Hi Everyone Sorry I'm being a really needy new Preschool manager at the moment but seems lots of issues are coming up all at once! So, can anyone advise me about the rules regarding how many children a Preschool can take. I thought that I would change the running of the setting, using my current staff until we reach maximum ratio (as it seems the setting always need temporary staff from February to July). So I would like to work to a maximum of 20 children if there are less than 5 two year olds. However, I have been told that you have to take as many children as are stipulated on the registration - 25 in our case and leave a space for any child moving into the area. I'…

Afternoon All, I will be going on maternity leave in February and my deputy will be covering the management of the preschool in my abscene. I am informing OFSTED of this temporary change but does anyone know if there is a specific form for this or do I just write a letter or email directly to them? I found the EY3 Notification to OFSTED form from July 2012 but wasnt sure if this was the right form as it seems to be the form used when staff associated with the setting leave. Any ideas? Thanks
