Preschool Staffing

Hi Just sat wondering how other preschools organise their staffing as historically preschools have lower numbers of children in September and work up throughout the year. So, my question is how do you staff in September? Do the staff have set days and you run at a loss during the quieter months?

This is the first time I have posted. I am spending all of my spare time thinking and worrying about my new job as preschool manager. I have QTS and EYPS, but in terms of management I have not got much experience. We are a parent committee run preschool in an affluent area of a large town and I am really struggling. I have been in the job for around 3 months now. There was so much to do. There were staff members leaving children on their own, they were totally out of ratio often, the children were bored, planning was pretty much non-existent, observations/assessment were (and still are) too high in numbers and not of any high quality and the team were demotiva…

Hi All, Mobile phones are so much part of life these days, how do you manage parents using them / answering them when coming into pre-school to pick up or drop off their children? Has anyone got ideas or info to share? Thanks radish

We are £3.20 per hour No increase for 2 years We always used to increase but felt that parents were struggling to pay so we froze prices - we will however have to put them up if we want/can stay open next academic year. Our problem now is as fees are so expensive (according to parents) they won't take up full time hours until they are funded - by which time they are leaving to go to school

Hi, Hope you can help me - I went on a training about a year ago or so and had an ofsted inspector speaking on a completely different topic but she mentioned that it was okay to ask the inspector when they come knocking to wait whilst you ring ofsted and double check that they have sent the inspector for safeguarding reasons. Is this still the case? if so what number would I ring Ofsted on? Thanks

Pay Structure

Hello All, Just wondering if you have a pay structure in place for their staff? and do you have an entry point for each level, e.g. level 2. level 3, level 3 senco etc.. Would anyone be willing to share their scales and how you work it when you offer wage increases if you have been able to offer them and do you offer them after appraisals? Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance :-)

Hi have recently been told that all early years settings should have an Under 3's co-ordinator. Not wanting to sound stupid does anyone already have this in place as I am trying delegate this role to a member of staff and need to draw up a role and responsibilities document. What are they supposed to oversee? as we already ensure as part of EYFS that activities are differentiated?

Any tips on how to find the right person or whether you'd use recruitment agencies? I am the manager but we used to work hand in hand whereby she would make sure the day to day running was ok incl planning etc and im in charge of dealing with parents and financial side of things... Im really worried im not going to find the right person!

Hi all I have been looking at our progress information and it shows that Technology is an area that is either not assessed or where there are quite a few children who are not where they could be. Having looked at the children, our environment and resources and what activities we have on offer, I feel that we are just missing recording this. However talking to staff it seems that some of them are missing some opportunities not realising that it constitutes technology because it might not be traditional in nature. I do feel quite surprised by this as when talking staff seem to understand that its not just computers and cameras but any way, but its not translating t…

One of my staff is expecting twins in March and is starting maternity leave in February. As the twins will be her third and fourth children, she may not return to work. Does anyone know when she needs to tell me that she is definitely not coming back? Does she just give a month's notice before the end of her maternity leave? From my point of view, the earlier I know, the better, but I'm not sure what the law says and haven't been able to find out online. Thanks everyone.
