Hi I have been dealing with a very awkward situation with a parent's behaviour and it became so bad I had to terminate the child's place. (it's in our policy) The parent then made a complaint to Ofsted which I was waiting for as the parent constantly threatened me with that. Ofsted came last week and had no cause for concern. I am however really ready to hang up my hat as earlier this year, I had a situation with a staff member who needed a warning and she went out on the sick for weeks, found another job and of course then put in a complaint. Again, no cause for concern. So here we go again, inspection number 2 in 6 months. I really am so fed up with it all and the…

Hi there, I am new to this so hello everyone I was hoping to get some advice...... We are a new nursery whon opened in March 2013. We currently have 10 children on register. We have a couple of parents who have not been keeping up with their nursery fees. We are now approaching the 3rd week in August and a couple have over £200 outstanding from July. Despite me sending out invoices, reminders, having conversations, it just seems to be excuse after excuse. I know these parents receive tax credits on a weekly basis to help with their childcare and its very frustrating. One has been with us from the beginning and started to fall into arrears the previous month.S…

Job Descriptions

Hi I am in the process of reveiwing all the job descriptions, as over the last year or so, some of the old roles have evolved, and some staff promoted etc, I think refreshed job descriptions should help staff and myself at their appraisal to properly work through the requirments of the roles. Is there any reason why I can't display all job descriptions for all staff to see? There is still an element (over 4.5 years on from me starting) of 'how we used to do it' and some of the long standing staff members occasionally slip into this, despite me having modelled and explained how the staff situation is now. I thought by making the job descriptions available to all, it sh…

Children on laps
by Guest- 21 replies

Just wondering how settings deal with this..... In our setting children can be sitting on their key child's lap for quite some time, whilst playing at an activity. I am curious if in other settings are the children allowed to sit on the staffs laps? One setting I have heard about States that they don't allow it, nor do they cuddle the children. I recently went on a course where we were told children shouldn't be sitting on our laps. Feedback would be appreciated.....many thanks

I know this has been asked a while ago, but I couldn't find the thread. Does Every Child Matters still exist? Do we still use the five outcomes? (Be Healthy, Stay Safe etc) I have been looking at some safeguarding info from our local authority which says "Practitioners should be familiar with and to the Every Child Matters five priority outcomes." and it made me question whether Every Child Matters is still current. Didn't the coalition government and our friend Mr Gove drop it?

I observe my staff within the setting, now when ofsted attend they require me as the manager to assess an activity with them I am unsure if I should now observe the staff using a particular format. If anyone has a format that you are happy to share with me I would be very grateful. Thank you inadvance Karen

Does anyone have a policy on false nails? Are the staff allowed long false nails in your setting?
