staff babysitting

Hi just after your views on staff babysitting for parents. I am personally against my staff babysitting for our parents. I understand parents wanting to use them especially if they have no extended family or friends locally that they can rely for support but worry about any incidents/ accidents that may occur that would be detrimental to the member of staff or even the nursery. After reading the article on safeguarding and the Birmingham case review in Nursery World I thought i would gather your views on it, I'm tempted to draw up a policy stating that we wouldn't promote such a service but if staff and parents choose to do so they sign a contract to state that it…

..or am I right in thinking that somehow or other mental health checks for all seven year olds will turn into mental health checks for all 3/4 year old that early years staff can do for no extra money, support or respect! Not that I think that the teachers who may have to do it at seven will get any money, support or respect either.

As the manager owner of my setting, I'm struggling to get the balance right between leading the setting and managing - all i feel i do is manage the paperwork etc and sit in the office, I'm also doing my honours this year and i may have to take on a full time administrator (we got funding for an apprentice) how do you cope? really interested in other peoples thoughts and ideas - i used to bring work home but with 4 little ones it never really happens!

Hi there, I was hoping to get some advice about a matter that has just come up.... We have a pet rabbit at the nursery who is a house rabbit. We bought him shortly after the nursery opened and he has been with us since he was a baby. The children love him and it really helps to settle new children into the nursery as they love to come and see the rabbit, We did a consultation with existing parents at the time who all voted in favour of the rabbit He is super friendly and is only out under close supervision. The nursery is cleaned throughly on a daily basis. We have a parent whose child has just started nursery with us. They came for settling in sessions a few …

Nursery Organisation

I was wondering if anybody would be willing to share their experiences of Nursery routines . . . Our nursery currently has 26 chdn and 2 adults and there is access to a designated outdor area. So during child inititated time there is currently 1 member of staff in each area (indoors / out). My concern is that, as there is only 1 membr of staff in each area - if that person is undertaking focus activity - they are not there to provide play support / modelling language etc to the chdn who are not engaged in the focus activity. How do others with the same numbers work their routine?

Policy for nappy changing

Does anyone have a risk assessment for nappy changing that they would be willing to share? I have been told that I need to review our nappy changing facilities and to have a risk assessment in place. Our space is very limited; we currently use a changing mat on the floor as there is no space for a drop down unit. We have plenty of space in the adult/disabled toilet - but that is not allowed. It has been suggested that we have a wipeable screen at a height to reduce cross contamination, allow privacy for the child and supervision of the adult. I would be very interested to know what others do! Thank you. x

Hello All, We are deparately needing some help as nearly all our children are into transporting equipment - everything is moved. Along with all the equipment being completely mixed up we are finding playdough in the carft drawers, sand in handbags etc. Does anyone have any ideas to help us keeping some order within the group without stifling the children's fun. Thanking you
