Am I wrong in thinking my Deputy could do a bit more?

Hi there, I am trying to do the usual 'September shake up' and ensure we don't get set in our ways. My deputy works the hours they are paid for and no extra. They also are doing little more than the other staff, but are paid nearly twice their wage. As far as managing in my absence, they can do that (not if Ofsted asked them where we keep records or how to reflect of positive practice). I know some of this is my fault by saying 'don't worry, I'll do it', but it has become a huge weight on my shoulders and I cannot carry the sole responsibility any more. Any thoughts please, Spiral ;-I

I am considering setting up provision in a church hall. I am curious to know what facilities people offer; what legal status owners have adopted; how people are managing lunch clubs; and just any other information that you think would be useful to know... Look forward to hearing from you.

I have just had a show round for a 1 year old where the parents have told me that they are against immunisations....I just wondered if any other settings have come across this. My concerns are obviously for the children and staff currently in nursery and also how this could impact on the child. I was going to speak to the child's GP/Health Visitor or the Health Protection Agency but I'm really unsure? Any help please x

Hi I read a post about Ofsted inspectors not referring to development matters so much (I think that was it?) Quotes below.... "Inspectors should be aware that ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ has been produced as a supporting document for providers. It is not statutory." 'Inspectors should not refer to Development Matters in their evidence although they may wish to check development milestones to assess how children are progressing.' 'Inspectors may also wish to include some reference to developmental bands as part of their evidence of observations of tracked children' I understand that they cannot use the wording from DM in their re…

We have a member of staff who seems to be having alot of time off - either they are ill, or one of their 2 children are ill. I am now keeping a log ( 2 days off so far, we've only been back 3 days. I know I sound awful, but I have a feeling not all her time off sick is genuine. Im not sure What an acceptable level of absence due to sickness would be ? Other members of staff and some of the management team have also begun to question it.

Hi all Ok am now on a mission now I have finished Degree and EYP in July, I can concerntrate on things that need doing at my setting. Have a system in place to monitor progress of the individual child but am looking for a simple..ish! was to track the setting as a whole. Have looked at prams but it might just be me but feel that staff would be duplicating what they already do in learning journeys of each child. I would like to make things easier not harder. Does anyone know of any other way or is willing to share how you do it as have overloaded myself with info and am now totally confused. Thanks in advance
