Hi Due to there only being 2 of us (qualified) at my setting and an unqualified parent helper, if one of us is ill or on a course, we have to close the setting. Does anyone know of any companies that offer cover staff at short notice to sessional pre-schools? I understand they are highly priced! but have no other option. I have advertised for bank staff and get replies but they then change their minds when reminded that it is only on an as and when basis. We are in a very small village in Coalville, Leicestershire. I was advised to ask other settings and I have tried contacting them but they don't want anything to do with us! Thanks :1b

I'm sitting with our treasurer trying to find a simpler way for her to do the accounts. At present she breaks each receipt into cleaning products, food items, resources, equipment and loads of other catagories. She also lists items by day. I think there must be an easier way. Would anyone be willing to show me an example of what they give to the accountant, especially if you're a charity?

Hi everyone I can understand staff sharing tasks and responsibilities, but it has now been suggested in our setting that each member of staff lead a curriculum area. I was wondering what anyone else thought about this? I formerly worked in the primary sector and have coordinated different subject areas quite happily, but this seems to go against the idea of the EYFS and all areas being interlinked. Best wishes Dennie

What a horrible day! financial forecasts = doom and gloom. I'm not liking the options that face us but have no choice but to go along with them. . Any one else finding themselves in a similar situation?

Hi, just trying to gauge thoughts and ideas, if you were able to purchase a full induction package from a training provider what would you like to see in it? Some ideas so far include the obvious safeguarding, h&s, inclusion but also introduction to the EYFS, team work, communication. Thanks in advance

Hi All Following on from a previous thread earlier in the week about my setting only having 2 staff each session, I have decided to employ an extra person for our most busiest session of the week (its all we can afford at the moment). We hope this will also help if one of us is ill or on a course etc. as she can cover for us. I had previously advertised for bank staff and had 1 reply so I have decided to interview her first. She qualified last year to level 3 and lives local to the setting. What key questions would you ask on the interview? I've never done an interview before as I opened my setting with a friend. Also, does anyone know how I go about g…

Cool Milk Fridge

Does anyone have a 'Cool Milk' fridge? We have ordered one but are now wondering if it will fit! Can anyone tell me what make and size fridge they have been given and whether it has a freezer compartment? I know it will be with us shortly, but if I could find out in advance I can plan where to put it; it's easier to ask on the forum than to find time to contact Cool Milk!! We have asked for a small fridge. Can anyone hep? x

Hi I have been asked to put together some training on sustained shared thinking and the characteristics of learning. Please could anyone recommend any DVD clips or training packages. Or maybe offers some hints or tips. Many thanks in advance

Last term I attended some Ecat training and was given £180 to spend afterwards to help improve our practice in this area. Although that was great it is the sort of amount of money where it could buy lots of small things but not much in the way of big things, if you see what I mean? Can anyone suggest one large item that might really help create a communication friendly area in one playroom which we could buy for the £180?

I am a manager of a small private Nursery and have had an awful time with staff last term. One teacher has been with me for a few years and the other is more recent. The new member and I have had considerable problems and i will always remember her saying early on "I will challenge you!" I do find managing quite difficult I admit but often struggle to express myself when confronted and have sometimes walked of to calm down! I have decided its better to be purely professional in relationships at work and to keep calm, but this seemed to wind this person up even more! The other member of staff seemed to gang up with this girl, they say 3's a crowd!? I admit to having high s…
