Hi Everybody I have recently opened a small day nursery and now we are becoming busier invoices are very time consuming, we currently work our invoices using a simple formula that allows for 12 monthly equal payments for parents. I am looking for a software package that is easy cheap and will allow me to use own formula, does anybody use one or be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance

I've been puzzling over this lately and just wondered how, or if, setting leaders who are counted in ratios complete any formal staff observations (e.g. to prepare for the Ofsted joint ones or to inform appraisal / supervision) when supposed to be directly working with children.... because I have yet to find a convenient slot to do any. I feel I want to do them to prepare staff and myself a bit more and also because I do feel it will help to develop everyone's skills and knowledge...just seems like a struggle to be able to fit this in. Even when I am supernumerary I get stuck doing tasks like photocopying, printing photos, and other admin that really wont have mu…

Hi, I am curious to how many children you have per toilet? I remember reading in the EYFS it's 10 children per toilet. Is that the guideline every follows? Many thanks for your replies x

Hi I am a bit confused regarding staff wages. We work them out from September one year to August the next year. We work them out by working out the weekly pay and times it 38 weeks and then add 5.6 weeks holiday pay and divide by 12 to give us 12 equal payments per year. Now I am confused as my staff member will be on £5.03 per hour from September as she is 20yrs old. However she turns 21 at end of April and so the minimum wage will go up to £6.19. How do I work this out? Sorry if I don't make sense. Hope u can help :-)

Hi all just asking general opinions, I didn't undertake the Early Years Professional Status for many reasons, instead I did a BA Hons Degree in Early years. I have been chatting to someone today who was talking about the Early Years Initial Teacher Training course. I heard mixed reviews about the EYPS and wondered if anyone knew much about the EYITT? you are supposed to leave after a year with Early Years Teacher Status! thanks

Hi Just wondering if anyone can share an easy format which will help link my staff observations to supervisory and appraisal stage. We have been on the recent course and now feel bogged down by additional needs and samples of paperwork given to us. Our normal procedure begins with: A staff observation and feedback which is used by the individual staff as part of their professional development and is stored in their personal file. We aim to do a supervisory observation every 8 weeks and to provide feedback which supports our improvement plan/sef. We use these supervisories annually with our appraisal. On our appraisal we aim to set 3 targets one linking …

Please, please honest feedback required! It's going to be a long post, sorry in advance. Not sure where to start, I have been managing a Pre-school since feb 2011, in march 2012 we managed an ofsted rating of good. 2 of our areas to improve was our partnership with other providers (namely our partnership with the school- we rent our premises from them) we have worked very hard on this and now whilst not perfect has improved two fold. another area was our profiles, which try and try as I might is still sadly lacking. I have been running basically without a committee for some time and I am struggling to be in ratio, a key person, safe guarding person, administrato…

Anyone had any experience of this? We have a child who has only just recently started with us. Mum has moved the child from pre-school to pre-school and has chosen to keep her at home until she is 5. She is now saying that she has not applied for a school place as she plans to home school her. I have never had any experience of this but are there any legal avenues we need to follow or forms that need completing as she is telling me she doesn't need to do this. I am going to get on to LEA but I thought someone out there may have had some experience of this that they could share. TIA

What would you do if you suspect a parent has falsified an address to get a school place for their child as the grandparents live in the priority admission area not them, they are miles away. Any thoughts gratefully received.
