Tasting Foods

Each week we taste different foods from around the the world e.g. naan bread, pitta bread, brioche, various cheeses etc. I am getting a bit 'stuck' for different ideas - does anyone have any suggestions? It needs to be something that is easily available at the supermarkets. Many thanks!

At the moment the parents do not really get involved with the day to day life of the nursery. They do fill out the wow cards, come along to parents meeting and attend plays. I would like to encourage the parents to come into nursery and spend time with their children in the setting. I was thinking of INSPIRE type morning and afternoons for the parents. Has anyone done these and if so what have the used for nursery aged children. Also if you have any idea to get parents more involved in the setting. Little bit of a back ground of the nursery The nursery is a 30 place day nursery for children aged 2-5 years they come between the hours of 8.00am to 6.00pm with a m…

Do you use a contract for parents? We have 'terms and conditions' in our parents' handbook, then on their child's information form there is a section where they sign to say they have read and agree to the terms and conditions. I have had a problem with a couple of families not paying fees and I think it would be better if I could refer them to their contract. Also when we have fees paid by a college for student parents, they ask to see a contract and we don't have one! Does anyone have a copy of a contract they could share? Thanks in advance!

Sickness problem
by Guest- 13 replies

Does anyone know of an identified illness regarding sickness (i.e. vomit)? I have a little boy at nursery who is sick whenever he sees something 'unpleasant' or if he has difficulty swallowing e.g. a piece of apple or carrot. Last term he walked into the toilet area; one of the children had dropped poo onto the floor from her knickers as she pulled them down. He saw the poo on the floor and was immediately, and quite violently, sick. This has also happened when he has put his empty yoghurt pot into the bin and saw something he didn't like the look of (e.g. a badly bruised and squashed banana). He is also apparently like this at home and when he is out with hi…

Afternoon all, I have recently had to deal with an allegation against a member of staff which has been unfounded and no further action required. My question is would any of you put this in writing to the parent? The parent hasn't actually put her concerns in writing and I have spoken to her verbally. I have also looked at our complaints policy which states we only do a written response when there is a written complaint. I would be interested to know what other setttings policies are and if I need to look at updating our policy to be a little clearer in such cases. TIA

Ofsted inspection 1 2

Just had our Ofsted inspection today - inspector wanted to track one particular child - and asked the manager to watch me in adult focused activity - I had to know the next steps for each child who joined the activity - show enhancements - and then after the manager was asked to say whether my activity hit unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good or outstanding - with teaching as the key theme - OMG - she had observed the target child and then looked at whether my next steps for learning in each of the areas was right as per her observation of the child - still need to go to sleep in a dark room after this morning.

Hello All, I am from a charity run pre-school and am worried with regards licenses for music and dvds. Is this something we should have? We play music at PE time and on the odd occasion the children have sat down and watched a dvd. Should we have a license to do this? I will be calling the PSLA tomorrow see what they say but if anyone has any info or useful links that would be fab. Thanks in advance.

Ok,so... in the past, I have been really fortunate(?) in that the same staff have stayed year after year at the setting for the last 5/6 years and 1 member 11 years- all level 3/4, graduates etc. There are only 7 of us in total including myself, owner manager.Whilst this has brought stability in many ways, it has also lead to some staff being, shall I say, less interested,in keeping up with the changes, developments and demands put on us too. I am now in the exciting position through a variety of different personal reasons with my team ,where several of my original staff bar one have left during the last 6 months. I am happy with my new team but some staff are still gaini…

We have had a parent pull their child out suddenly and have now told us that they think (not certain) that a member of staff did something a bit inappropriate (not a CP issue). Mostly there seems to have been a bit of a fall out with another parent and we have become drawn into it by them not by what we actually did. There is no formal complaint and no staff know what happened. The one mentioned by parents has not been named so I had to question all of them. So what do I do now? I think I should make a report of it as an incident and I have offered to sit down and discuss it with the parents to try to find a solution but they are not interested. We are all pretty shak…
