Hi All, We are a pre-school in a VERY small village and opened in September 2011 with 2 children. Okay, so over the last week we have been trying to think about the new school year and how we will manage. We currently only have 11 children on role and half of those are going to school in september, the other half will only be doing 1/2 days a week. So basically we can't stay open where we are as we would not have anywhere near enough income to pay staff and the rent for the building let alone anything else! We approached local schools about moving to there or purchasing a mobile to place on their grounds and they have all said this is not possible. One did sa…

Hi I have recently been on a course where Policies and Procedures were discussed. We were given a list of those that were recommended to keep. We have all of them plus more - but I must admit that we haven't got these. Food Poisoning Involving and Consulting with Childrem Supporting Transitions Intimate Care Visitors Bullying What policy do you put Visitors into? Do I really need a policy just for visitors? We have a notice that says all visitors must sign in the Visitors Book and in the Collection of Children policy it covers "unknown persons" collecting or visiting. I don't have a "Bullying" Policy as I don't actually like the word "Bully" to refer…

Hi, Can someone out there clarify something for me. I am the mananger of a day nursery, I have a deputy, a good one, but the owners wants to hire a "secretary"( basically an assistant for the office) not childcare qualified, but they want them to be the named person in charge when im not there. As I see it the named person should be childcare qualified, but they say not. Advise please.Ive send them the bit from the standards in the EYFS framework which says the manager has to level 3 or above but it doesnt say named person in charge.who as they say isnt the manager.

Hello I manage a small committee run setting. I inherited staff that the previous manager had recruited, they are all mums of children who attended the Pre school at the time of their children attending. They started out as relief then were taken on as others moved on. They have all studied to level 3 during their time with me. Anyhow my problem is as I am sure your all aware, that for the Pre-school to run efficiently there is lots of things that need to be done other than the normal key carer roles, like the shopping, putting items away in correct places (not the ledge) tidying of storage areas etc. The deputy and myself are finding ourselves having to work …

I have spent the last four years getting my foundation degree and gcse in maths. I dont need to tell you how hard it is with my own business and young family. Any way now looking at eyps which is what government wanted in every early years setting. Cant do eyps any more have to do early years teacher training which requires gcse in science. No dont have that. At the end of my tether. I am 40 something dont want to keep studying. Is any one else in this situation. Buttercup

Parent request change of key person
by Guest- 5 replies

If a parent requests a change of key person half way through the child's time with you as she doesn't feel the bond is there that should be, would you do this, if so would you record the conversation (it wasn't a complaint, just a request to meet with managment). Member of staff is obviously upset and wants things recorded to protect her, but I am not sure exactly how to record this if that makes sense.

At a Safeguarding day yesterday we were given these forms to use. They dont belong to anyone so I thought I'd share them here. CR10 is to record all correspondence for each child, letters, phone calls, (even if no-one answers), emails, conversations etc. to and from anyone connected with the child. CR8 is to record any particular correspondence in more detail if needed. It had never occurred to us to record anywhere that mom had phoned to say little Charlie was ill today and wouldnt be in or an HV had phoned and wanted to make an appointment or any of the other calls we take every day. The idea is so we can look at one sheet (CR10) and see if there's a pattern …

I have a question 'Training' - where do you access your training from? We used to have quite a good training list from our Early Years advisory team on both the Welfare & Education side of things but in the last 12 months things have really gone down (understandably) We are struggling even to access some of the mandatory training eg Safeguarding, Health & Safety Quite a few of the courses seem to be going as 'webinars' which run in the day, which when you don't have internet access at the setting is of no use. On the education side of things a lot we now have to pay for to have our Early Years advisors to come in and do 'in-house' training which we can't a…
