A member of staff has been approached by the parents of a child who left us in July to ask if she would help out with respite care for the family particularly during school holidays. We have always made it very clear to staff that they are not to babysit for children who attend the setting. However, do I have any grounds to insist she doesn’t do this for an ex pupil? I’m really not comfortable with this and understand the family have very little support. anyone else had a similar situation?

Hi all, I am presently thinking of installing CCTV in all rooms, would appreciate any advise from those who have CCTV, regarding cost, peace of mind, safety etc, and whether it is really worth the money. Thanks

Hi i have posted this elsewhere on the forum too so please feel free anyone to remove the duplication - I was just hoping someone may get to read and reply - thank you 😊 We are looking at changing the name of our nursery (rebranding) to better reflect our ethos etc. When we purchased the business some 15 years ago as a preschool (which has since become a nursery) , we kept the previous preschools' name out of local respect, continuity in the community etc. We want to keep everything as it is - staff/ offer etc but want to change our name -last inspection with Ofsted graded good in 2015 Has anyone else done this? What are the implications? Wo…

Ofsted have announced that the SEF document, generally completed online, will cease to be used from 1st April 2018. The SEF, in the current format, was never a statutory requirement, now it won't be available at all. The requirement for all settings to self-evaluate, reflect and review practice to improve outcomes for children remains in place. At inspection, providers will continue to need to demonstrate how they are self-evaluating. This extract from the early years inspection handbook is very clear: From p14, 59-61 "Using the setting’s self-evaluation during the inspection 59. Leaders and managers of settings should have an accurate view of …

Hi I’ve had a quick look and can’t find anything current on this so apologies if already covered. Is there anyone who dealt with mat leave recently and could talk me through time line and responsibilities please? It’s my first time and I don’t want to mess it up.

I’m thinking of offering additional responsibility for outdoor learning. Do any settings offer responsibility points like schools do? If so how do you manage it?

So received this link from County today advising us that everyone has to complete it, surely it is just the EY3 that we update when needed anyway? Anyone else been told to do this? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-and-childcare-providers-ey3-changes-to-individuals?utm_source=f1ead443-7ab9-4868-9d19-62896d543688&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&utm_content=immediate

Hi All, We were inspected back in April and through an error of judgment on my side, we were found to be inadequate. I am broken hearted and deeply upset and if it wasn’t for my staff and wonderful, supportive families, I would have said after thirty years of childcare that was enough. We were found to be inadequate on leadership and management and subsequently welfare went out of the window. She judged us good in the other two areas. We have been working hard and have improved enormously over the past three and a bit months, aiming ultimately for at least one outstanding outcome. I’m just wondering if anyone else has been in this position recently …
