bank holiday pay

hi, i am sure someone on here can help me or point in the right direction for information. I am in the process of considering changing to full time opening and in the past have paid staff during the time we are closed ( 6 weeks) and they have taken their own holidays during this time or elsewhere without pay. In changing to full time I will be offering them the statutory holiday entitlement but allow them to have complete control over when they take it. My question relates to bank holidays as not all staff work mondays or fridays and I was wondering how you manage this in your setting. Does it come out of the holiday entitlement? in which case the staff member loses …

Our old manager didn't keep records of why staff were absent, unless a training course was logged on the calendar, we signed in & out and she used the sign in sheets for calculating wages and that was it. We didn't get sick pay, and looking back, she wasn't doing holiday pay right either. So we've started logging absence from this year, and of course like everything else in childcare, it's a work in progress! We log absence for staff member's sickness, for appointments (proof required) that can't be easily made outside of working hours, child's sickness, and anything else as it comes up. We can now easily log staff sickness and track patterns, and discuss…

Hi all, Really hope you can help. I have a member of staff that has been with me since march last year, first stated as a volunteer, for work placement, then decided she would like to stay and now studying for level 3 as a staff. The issue with her is that she seriously lack self confidence always waiting for instructions, prompts, i have had a member of staff cried because she did not want her in her room, because she felt she will be under a lot of pressure with her. l have called her into the office, talked to her one to one, done appraisal, she also have a mentor and is still the same. She panics easily, we are due OFSTED, and staff are worried she will let u…

I see a few of these beginning to be touted about. We've rolled our own for the last 20 years but there is considerable work involved in altering the software to accommodate frequent government changes. Is anyone using a system that they can recommend? Best - Anthony

Me again, sorry If you get a reference just giving you factual information for a staff who have worked with the nursery for a year, a reference just detailing dates they worked, nothing more, do you read between the lines or what???. Nursery states that it is the responsibilty of the employer to make judgement on their suitability.

Hi all, As you may of seen, we were thinking of purchasing a mobile classrooom to be placed on school grounds for our playgroup. We are currently using a village hall but are having lots of difficulties with this. I spoke to the school today and they say they could accomodate us within the school, without the need for a mobile. They are just unsure of how the insurance would work- would we be part of there's or get our own? I also said that I was considering starting an after school club if the move goes ahead, and they were very keen for this and said there would be a lot of uptake. We may lose a couple of our children if we move but they only do 2 sessio…

I came across this on the BBC website, suggesting that if OFSTED raise the ratio's, it will bring down the cost of day care for parents, I'm not convinced, I think as it says in the article, that all this will do is go towards the gap between the amount we get from the L.A and the actual cost of the provision of the 15 hours 'free' childcare. I would also be concerned that this will impact the quality of care as we all know how tough it can be sometimes even on a 1:8 ratio when you have 3 staff and 24 children, including distressed newbies, one who has a wet accident and one who wants to tell you all their news ect !! Not to mention 1:3 ratios with under 2's who all nee…
