I have a register for parents to sign in and out each day, I stand by the register getting them to sign in however as soon as I get distracted parents carers leave without doing this. IS THERE A SIMPLIER SYSTEM IN PLACE where I can share - what do you do in your setting - we are a packaway nursery - so can not have any electronic system in place. Term starts next week and need to have a system in place.

A parent has written to me today- what do you think of it? can you help me in replying? 'I love that the children play outside but is there any chance the water activities could be put away till it gets warmer please? It's far too cold for little ones to be wet in the garden. Many thanks.' I love this forum there is always someone to turn to!

Hi all Has anyone else had a horrendous term this Autumn? I feel at the end, can't take any more and emotionally drained. I have in nine years never had a term like this! I have been working with a very vulnerable child and family since September and been screaming out for support and help since September. Have worked so hard to get the parent to firstly see there is a problem, allow me to get help from outside the setting (which they only agreed after weeks of negotiation). Was promised extra funding as this child needs 1:1 and we are a charity with very little money and a skeleton staff really and we couldn't fund this indefinitely. Was promised financial help …

Hello, I just wanted to clarify a query that has come to me via a member of staff who has asked me the following question. If a complaint is received from a staff member about another staff member does this need to be recorded in the complaints log? I am thinking the complaints log is to record complaints made, received from parents? If the staff member makes a complaint about another member of staff then I would assume this would be approached differently. Perhaps being a performance management issue, conduct issue that is not linked to a child protection or safeguarding issue, then an initial meeting, supervision held between manager and staff member to addr…

How are any of you going to tackle the new emphasis on staff upervision under the revised eyfs? How often are the supervision meetings supposed to take place, and what format are you implementing? I am struggling to work out how we will accomodate this, in a way that meets Ofsted's needs, but isn't too onerous on us.

I am setting up a new day nursery which does not have an outside area yet (we will have a roof garden) but I am planning to take the children out daliy on trips around the local area. We are located close to the beach, park, shops and local farm. Does any one have any advise as to how to organise daily tips and what I may need to take with me? Thank you

Am I being petty?

I work four long days (8-6) Mon - Thur in a day nursery. We recently have been given new uniforms. Everyone, regardless of hours/days worked has been issued with two polo shirts and a cardigan - all branded. Try as I may, it is a real effort to turn around the shirts to wear one clean each day, because as I no longer have children at home, my laundry is done once a week. The items say no tumble dry, so I am washing both shirts on a Tuesday evening (7pm), with only a couple of other items, hanging them in the airing cupboard, but having to get up at 5 when the heating comes on to finish the one for that day off on the radiator! It is really annoying and the company ha…

Staff goodwill Christmas Party dilemma 1 2

Hi Am looking for your opinions on staff goodwill and it seemingly being taken for granted. I work in a privately owned pre-school nursery with up to 20 children per session between 2.5 - 4 yrs with 3 or 4 staff normally. The sessions run from 9.30am - 12pm and 12.15pm - 2.45pm with some of the children staying all day. I am usually there by 9am after dropping my own children to school. We do not get paid for setting up in that half hour before the children arrive (even though a few are dropped early and parents pay for the benefit). We don't get paid for the 15 mins gap at lunch time even though you are still expected to supervise and help children wit…
