wonder if anyone can advise me in a situation - we sing and sign a prayer before snack and lunch - a member of staff mentioned to another member yesterday she was uncomfortable with it as she did not have any beliefs , she was advised to talk to me which she did not take up and then today after the session she told me how she felt . the song makes 2 references to religion 'god' and 'amen'. I asked why she had not said before, her answer was she thought everyone would be funny. I explained to her that she did not need to beleive in order to help the children do it and she was not alone in being a non believer. I said i respected her beleif but this was part of our routine…

Hi, How would you support practitioners to understand how to provide a play based environment? Ideas, tips and techniques welcome. Thanks!

What format do you use for your waiting lists? We are a day nursery with three rooms so have to manage children moving from room to room as well as new children starting and leavers. Do you use software, spreadsheets, word documents, pen and paper? I'm trying to find a way to make it easy and clear!

Hi, I hope someone here can help. Our Nursery (rented Church hall building) has 4 toilets and 3 urinals (1 of which is child height). The staff use 1 of the 4 toilets virtually exclusively but the children can use it too. We have been registered for 32 children for about 6 years (Ofsted have been twice in that time and were happy with arrangement) but I want to increase to 36 which the new guidance says we can now do without applying to Ofsted first. Space isn't an issue as the hall is very large and I thought it would be more than acceptable - but our EYA disagrees. She has said we should reduce numbers to 30 as we need an toilet exclusively for the staff. As …

Just had a parent ring me to say that her child (who has been at preschool from 9-3) has been to the doctor with what she thought were ulcers and she's been told he has hand, mouth and foot! Anyone else had this in their settings? Should I warn everyone? Is it going to spread through us all?

I wonder if any of you lovely people can give me a clue on how long Ofsted reports usually take to be published. We were inspected on the 7th November - received a phone call last Monday 19th Nov from Prospect saying they would email the report which I had 24 hrs to read and confirm it was 'factually correct' and that if they did not hear from me by 10.30 on 20th they would forward the report to Ofsted. I have heard nothing since and staff and parents are pestering for our outcome which I am desperate to share.

Resources for 2 year olds

An exciting but unexpected offer has been bought to our attention. It seems that there are grants available (in Cornwall anyway) to maximise provision for 2 year olds when the new funding options begin in April 2013! We have the opportunity to buy some quality resources for our 2 year olds. I would love to hear about any resources that you have in your settings that are a 'must have'. I would particulalry appreciate advice on resources that improve outcomes for the children that use them and help to create an exciting and stimulating environment. We would also be very interested in option for children with SEN including any software and other IT items. Our applica…
