Does anyone know if our setting will need to inform OFSTED of a change of manager whilst she is on maternity leave? I can't seem to find any clear cut guidance on when you have to inform OFSTED of changes such a this. Thanks

just reading through some recent ofsted reports (this weeks) and one says the setting is not yet outstanding because...'there is currently no 'buddy' system in place to further support children's sense of security', then goes on to say they should develop the keyperson system further to incorporate a 'buddy' that knows the child and family as well, my question being do you all have this in place ? we don't we are a small staff team who know all the children very well and make it a point that it isn't always the keyperson taking care of a child's needs so that they feel secure with all staff, but maybe this isn't enough now

I lead a large EYFS team in a primary school. We have a 52 place nursery and staff morale is very low. Their concerns range from the change to opening hours (now different to rest of the school) and the role of the key worker. The TA's feel they are doing the same job as a teacher without the pay and the teachers feel they are not teaching but in the role of providing child care and toilet training. In suffolk we have recently changed the entry into school / nursery we now have all children starting in September so that means the children are younger and the staff are struggling with the work load. I have given them training on the new EYFS, our new Learning Journeys…

Non Payment of Fees

Sorry know it's not to do with EYFS etc but thought I would post on here. I have a parent who had not paid any fees since they started - when I discovered it £2811 outstanding. To say that I now have a comprehensive accounting system is an understatement. She has asked me not to discuss it with her husband. She has now made payment of £700 but I had to email her yesterday to chase up part of that payment! I spoke to her in the office today and said that unless I see above the monthly invoice being paid so I can see she is trying to pay the debt off then I wouldn't be able to take the child anymore. She says she is depressed and I feel really guilty now, as we should hav…

We've been told by a parent that he gets CVs from work. We've never accepted them before but I dont know why. Does anyone accept them if so, what should I know? I've had a brief google and it seems easy to set up.

Hi everyone Just curious what everyone is charging for your non funded children, although I am aware it will be dependent on areas. We haven't put up our fees in over 3 years and currently charge £7.80 per 3 hour session - equating to £2.60 per hour - which does seem ridiculously low when the ratios are higher for the littler ones. I have made some enquiries and the local childminders, some who are not qualified are charging £3.50 per hour. We are waiting for Ofsted, but last month had our quality review and got Outstanding, and I feel the staff well deserve a raise for all their hard work, and dedication as they put in so many unpaid hours of work doing setting u…

Has anybody set up a system for lending books for children to take home to share with parents? We have lots of lovely books -too many to put on the bookshelves and I wondered about letting children take them home. What system did you set up?How did it work out?

Expectations of a nursery nurse

I am a teacher in a maintained nursery unit. My nursery nurse will be leaving shortly and I would be very interested to know what other teachers expect of their NN - over and above the day to day work with the children; do they complete grant funding paperwork, place equipment orders etc?

We are currently recruiting both a new Supervisor and Assistant/Deputy Supervisor to our small, friendly Peak District village pre-school. Does anyone have any advice for recruitment advertising on a small budget? We have already approached local universities/colleges, used Jobseekers, gumtree, mumsnet and the Sheffield Forum and are poster-campaigning the local area. Our pre-school has new and reinvigorated management committee and the new appointees will play a vital role in helping to shape the future of the pre-school, so it's important that we do all we can to attract motivated and committed candidates. Exciting times... (recruitment ad attached for infoRecruitme…
