Ok here goes!! I've previously posted about the manager but this is what happened today..... Some of the staff have been really upset and feel demoralised, victimised, worthless, inadequate(just some of the words they used) and really at an all time low.....in fact they are a word away from all walking out.....basically by the treatment they receive from manager/owner. It starts off none of them have had training in planning they'd got just got their heads round it and EYFS changed although there are only minor tweaks to planning its thrown them because they were not confident with it anyway. The manager has basically said some unbelievable things to them(not witnessed …

Hi all, Is anyone out there able to help. We have three staff members off tomorrow which leaves us with 12 children over the age of 3 and 3 members of staff in. Manager Qualified to level 3, one working towards level 2 and one unqualified. Been reading the requirements and I am unclear as to whether we are we in ratio to run the session, with 12 children in - One adult to 8 children means we only need 2 adults (Manager level 3 and one unqualified) which also means we will meet the requirements of 50 staff must be qualified to level 2. Do we not meet the requirements if the third member of staff works the morning session? Thanks for your help

I just wondered what other people's experience was of childcare students on placement. We seem to have one student after another who isn't prepared to put in the work. Some barely interact with the children, some are so shy they cannot hold a conversation with adults, even to ask for help or discuss their work. We have a student handbook, we explain what is expected of them and give them a placement mentor. Despite this, many students tell us they don't have to do any observations of target children, don't have to plan or carry out any activities. We know this is not true and have spoken to their tutors but nothing ever improves. We have students from three differen…

Hi Just wondering whether anyone has a pro-forma of an Inclusion Audit which I could take a peek at please? I have just been reading my Open University course books and came across the Index for Inclusion and applying an Inclusion Audit into settings to address removing barriers to learning. Would like to implement it - but not sure where or how to start. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello all I wonder if any of you can offer me help and advice. I am the lead teacher in a school nursery and am feeling the pressure of the job and having a bit of a confidence dip. I seem not to be able to get on top of the work and don't feel at all to grips with the revised curriculum and what needs to be done. For the past 4 weeks, since term started we have been putting all of our combined efforts into trying to settle a rather challenging cohort and our focus has been on simply enabling the children to get used to routines and how to play cooperatively with one another. However, I feel I have lost sight of the bigger and don't really know what I should be doi…

Hi I have a fairly new member of staff that has a problem with spelling. She quite often spells childrens names incorrectly when putting their names on their work and when she does written observations, that parents see, there are quite a few spelling mistakes there as well. There isn't a laptop at work for her to make use of and to use spell check. Even if there was, it wouldn't help with spelling childrens names correctly and writing up post-its during the day. I have talked to her about it a little bit, asking her to check spelling of names by looking at the pictures of children on the wall which have their names underneath. The only thing is, I don't think she is awa…

Hi, Im not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes. We are a small pre school renting a demountable on school grounds. We have always had use of the school playground for outside play, but this has now changed. We apparently interfere with the schools free flow play. The area we have been 'given' access to is main walkway access for parents, which also houses a drain that overflows when the toilets block. We dont want to cause a breech in our working relationship with the school, but without suitable outside play I'm not sure what to do. before I go to the Head again or try legal action, I thought I'd try for some advice . Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm in the habit of only posting on this forum when I need help - which is not good, so I apologise in advance! I'm currently working in a 60 place primary school nursery split over two sessions each day. There are three members of staff - myself, a recently qualified teacher (2nd year of teaching), a level 3 TA and a level 2 apprentice. It's no secret that we are struggling with the behaviour of a number of very disruptive children in our morning session - which has been observed by senior teachers in school, including the deputy head. Until now I've not experienced such a level of challenging children in one intake (we're talking about 6 or 7 childr…

Hi All, have started an audit against the new Stat Framework to make sure nothing is slipping through then net as we will be inspected shortly due to new reg! What would really make my life easier is having the Framework in word so that I can reorganise into a table format! has anyone got it already in word or the technology to convert and upload? (if so would be nice to have the full development matters doc in word also)! I vaguely recall someone saying they had the means to do this............ Thank you!
