Hi all thought I would try again with this one see if any one can help!!! original post below Hi does anybody still do a development plan and physical and curriculum access plans? these were in my operational file so I don't know if anyone still has anything like that. I do them every year and never know what to put on them! At the moment we have a SEF and I have made up an action plan on all the changes brought about by EYFS and timescales etc... feels like just repeating the same thing over and over. Originally there were issues with access to the hall but these are now fixed and there is no issues with access so do I need to keep writing this every yea…

Hello, With workplace pensions being introduced this month for larger organisations, does anyone know when Pre-schools have to contribute to these for their staff ?

Hi all I am having huge problems at the moment with my deputy (although that is another story) so just want to check out some 'basic' stuff just so I know I am not going mental!!! context this is my set up in a nutshell: we work from a memorial hall so all open plan, the kitchen is at one end with a stable door to keep the children out but an open hatch way so the hall can be seen at all times. We have a small (and I mean small) free flow outside area at the side which opens with french door type things and when in use these are open at all times. We also go out the front to the concrete area with bikes, water play, garden etc.. again when in use the front doors…

We have a serious nut allergy in our setting. Do we need to inform insurance. Our admin tells us 'they never asked' but should we bring it up and declare it. I don't know if it will affect our cover or cost etc. It is not due for review until Feb.

We currently have a parent who is constantly finding something or someone to complain about - it's been going on for nearly a year and whatever we do to try and please this person, nothing is good enough. The latest complaint is laughable and she has threatened to go to Ofsted if I do not discipline a member of staff for not saying good morning to her son (said member of staff was busy with other children already in the setting and not greeting any children - another member of staff was doing that). I really have had enough and due to have a meeting with the person and really want to suggest that perhaps we are not meeting her requirements and perhaps she should co…

I am a playleader who has just taken on the named person responsibility. Basically I do everything to do with the group except finances as we have an admin lady who does this. So in effect my role is most definitly of a manager and yet I only get paid 90p more than the unqualified assistant who does her assistant job during session time and no more than that( she is not a key worker, does no planning or prep etc) My question is I think I should be given a pay rise to reflect what I do. We are REALLY well off, have a good savings account and a very healthy current account. Would I be in the right to ask for a decent pay rise?? I know a lot of groups are finding finan…

I have a question about the ages in day nursery rooms. This is obviously knew to us having come from pre-school and we used to run having all ages together in the morning, then in the afternoon we split the older children going to school from the 2 and 3 year olds. When we set up our new nursery we decided on having 4 rooms. I'll start at the older end of our nursery: Pre-school room - age 3 and 4 - this room is solely for the children who go to school the following september, I am not moving children who are funded after Christmas or Easter into this room. I feel very strongly that these children should be as a peer group and younger funded children moving into i…

New Job Worries!

Hi everyone, I have just renewed my subscription after being away for a while (I was a member whilst I was at uni and doing my EYPS), so "Hi" again!! I have just accepted a really great job offer and start my new role as senior nursery nurse / EYP at a private day nursery, a week on Monday. I feel grossly underprepared as I've only had experience through my degree and EYPS, I've never actually worked in a nursery. The managers must believe in me, though, as they offered it to me there and then! Anyway, I'm a little concerned about how I can get on board with the staff when I start. I don't want them to think of me as someone who's just walzted in and trying to cha…
