I know now that we need to use sqaure meterage to determine the no of children we can have, but under the old system there was a cap at a max of 26 per room. I have ploughed through my revised eyfs and had a good search on Ofsted site, but can't find such a rule any more. Can anyone advise whether the cap still exists? Sorry should have stated " Childcare on non domestic premises...ie a PVI nursery.

I have just heard of yet another local school opening a '2 year old unit' this will be the 3rd one I've heard of since we started back in September. I wondered if others are experiencing this in their areas? We are really struggling for money due to low numbers (for the first time in 30 years!) and have today realised that this is where all the 2 year olds are going We don't know what to do, we have enough money by using everything available to get through 5 months, I feel as if we've done nothing but fight for survival since schools started taking the 3 year olds but if this is the way forwards, taking from 2, then I honestly feel as if I can fight no longer …

Hi All, I work in a Nursery Class in a Primary School. My question is - how does your school decide which children you admit to Nursery. Our authority now has a one point of enrty - so children are admitted in September. In the past it used to be different. We are still taking children into Nursery according to their DOB, so if a child is a September birthday, they take precedence over a child who has a birthday say in July or August, even if the child who's birthday is in August has applied for a place well in advance of the other child. So our waiting list doesn't seem to be a waiting list? We have a child who has been on the waiting list for 18 months and stil…

If a child manages to leave the pre-school building during a busy collection time and is found and brought back in by another parent is the pre-school obliged to inform Ofsted? They have documented the event and since changed their procedures to prevent this from happening again. To my knowledge nobody has made a complaint about the incident. My understanding is that they should have the paperwork available to show Ofsted if requested at their next visit. Am I right?

hi, Im wondering if you can help me. As a breakfast, after school and holiday club we accept various childcare vouchers. Now I Know you cannot refund parents if they overpay with childcare vouchers. But is it possible to transfer them? A child is moving from a another childcare provider to us and the manager there has said she will transfer some money (orignially childcare vouchers although they were redeemed by the other provider) to us to cover this childs fees whilst with us. Can we do this? Thanks Jo

Has anyone else had theirs post new EYFS?? The inspector turned up halfway through yesterdays session thinking we were open all day! so had to come back again this morning as she would only have been there an hour and a half otherwise. Although we have all been dreading it and had hoped for it to happen before summer with the old eyfs which we were all very comfortable with I have to say that it wasn't too bad and also she was actually nice - never thought I'd say that about OFSTED!! Obviously I can't say our actual grade but I am really happy They (or the inspector we had anyway) were very interested in behaviour management strategies and VERY interested…

Hi We have a child who is constipated and on medication. Recently we have dealt with the child soiling himself, and the surrounding area. We've reassured the poor child, cleaned him up, cleaned the area up and put the soiled clothing, untouched, in a bag for the parent. The parent has complained about pooh dropping out onto the floor when she opened the bag up. I don't think she is complaining about the clothing not being rinsed. Should we try to remove as much excess as possible down the toilet before bagging up the soiled clothing? What do others do?
