Staff Maternity Leave & Training

I Have a member of staff whose child protection training has run out while on maternity leave..I made her fully aware of this including constant reminders of the expiration date and how to book a course! Our policies state that booking courses/training are the responsibility of the individual (its all done online). My dilemma now is that when this staff member returns to work she has not renewed or even attempted to book herself on a course..therefore her child protection training has expired. I have emphasised that it is in the individuals best interests / professional practice to keep up to date with training etc but am unsure of where the land lies regarding c…

One of our parents in nursery has asked if we can give her children filtered or bottled water at snack time. We have only ever used tap water at nursery and I drink tap water at home. Do I accommodate her wishes or not? We have rolling snack with water jugs out for children to help themselves. If her children were going to have different water, they will have to ask an adult for their special water. Do we buy a water filter jug so all children have filtered water? I am quite happy with the quality of tap water. What would you do?

We have an outdoor large shed that we utilise for our children when needed. 2 members of staff will take the allocated number of children to the outdoor shed that is situated in our secure play area. So lets say for example they take 8 toddlers with them to the shed to do a quite session, and 1 or more children need the toilet.. as expected. The main nursery room are also on ratio and don't really have available staff to cover the staff member who needs to walk the child back into the main room where the toilets are situated. We do normally have a manager who can cover and me in the office who could also cover. What if the manager and me are unavailable at this moment…

I'm busy creating a wildlife area at pre-school - actually this has become a long term project, one of thoses great ideas which somehow ends up taking over your life! Anyway, I am toying with the idea of adding a pond which would add an extra dimension for the children, but funds are virtually non existent at the moment and obviously I'm worried about the safety of the children. The wildlife garden is in a separate part of the outside area, separated by a fence with a gate. The children can open the gate at the moment but I'm sure I could secure it somehow. I just wondered, do people think I would need a rigid pond cover as well, to ensure the children's safety? They are …

I need some help. I am in the process of registering with ofsted for a new preschool with my business partner and we will each act as joint manager. We have just had a visit from an advisor from the county council and she said we would need to do the supervision for the other person. We're both confused about what is involved and whether we need to use any particular format for recording this. Any help and advide gratefully received. Many thanks
