I am due to start my maternity in around 12 weeks time and I am very happy that I have a fantastic staff member taking over my role as currently was dreading it if my deputy had too. However she has only been in the setting 3 months but has already done a lot more than my deputy has done in 2 years. She's very confident with the EYFS etc My plan is to put an operational file together as Ofsted is due in September and i'll still be on maternity. The idea behind this is that Ofsted can see the progress we have made over the last few years and it will be easier than her having to explain it all. I have the list from the resources area as well as my own ideas too. …

What do you look for in CV's when considering who to interview. I have lots of applicants that have all different levels of qualifications from NVQ 2 to BA hons. But they all have draw backs such as Qualification but no actual working experience. Childcare Qualification but poor GCSE's in English, Maths. Excellent CV but live 45 mins -1hr away(post is only for 16hrs) I fear we are just a stop gap until better comes along. Obviously once you get to interviews you can make better judgement's, buy how do you decide who to interview. Previous vacancies we have always had 1or 2 CV's that stands out from the rest and interviewed those first, this time is proving far …

aaarrgghh I want to scream and thank goodness its Friday Im pretty new to my role as a deputy/manager to be soon... so I would really appreciate some advice and help! We are a fairly small nursery and dont have a cleaner Certain members of the staff team have this huge problem over cleaning-despite having a cleaning rota in place which is self explanatory they cant seem to organise themselves- some even think its more important than being with the children and updating paperwork! (I suspect so they can get home on time!) I have a rule that no cleaning starts before 5 (we are open until 6) and before starting cleaning they have to make sure they have update…

Although we did well in our last inspection, one thing that was flagged up was that we were not showing well enough how we had planned and carried out improvement to our practice, although she agreed we had done lots of things. I think we do well in planning (Action plans etc), it is showing what has changed that is not so clear. And showing it in an easy to keep updated way (ie probably not the SEF online!) which I am looking for. Any good ideas?

im just wondering if anybody could help me. i have been told different things by different professionals, including OFSTED. can a level 2 be left in a room on their own, obviously not to run a room but for short periods of time, for example a level 3 needs to go the toilet or go out the room for a short message? Can they be left in a room whilst children are sleeping i.e lunch cover. Also just help me to understand the new EYFS ratio requirement am i right in thinking if for example i have 8 2 year olds i would be ok to have 1 level 3, 1 level 2 and a apprentice. from new eyfs at least one being level 3, at least half of other staff being …

Hi all, I am not sure whether i should be moaning really but hey, my DM, for about 8 years gave in her resignation a week ago, due to a new job in a school just after finishing her degree which i put her forward for encouraged her, with everything i could staffing resources etc. LA paid for the course, but still the nursery had to work around her study with her days off, l know that she cannot be with me forever due to pension etc that was the reason given, but to leave just after graduation not a day late, is such a let down. This is what i have been saying to our LA advisers, nurseries cannot afford graduates, they pay for the course, because the government wan…

Hi, I was wondering how many of you already use IPads in your early years setting and what do you use it for? What apps do you use and does anyone use it for planning or completing learning journeys? We are a Pre-school with just 3/4year olds. Many thanks
