So cross at the moment, a local nursery attached to a school has had 2 days warning that Ofsted will be with them this week. they have therefore ensured their premises, activities and paperwork are all looking spick and span ready for inspection. I work in a Preschool near this school nursery and we get no warning when Ofsted come. It is because they are attached to a school but i still can't help think it is very very unfair especially as there is nothing to indicate they had advance warning when they get their result. I don't like being like this and having rivalry with other settings but at the end of the day parents look at Ofsted grades and reports. We are "good" c…

Hi I have one member of staff who used to work for 13.5 hours a week. We decided to work the pay out by working out how much she earns per week, times it by 38 weeks which we are open and adding the holiday pay, then divided it into 12 monthly payments so that she got the same amount each month. Now we have extended our opening hours and she is working an extra 4 hours. How do I work this out? Do I do the how thing again or would that make it too much. I will have to change it again in September as we are opening more sessions then. Thanks

Hello all need some of your wisdom. Today I had a member of staff have a problem with me because she asked me if we were not having a circle time this afternoon and why not? I explained that since the member of staff who circle time it was was putting away outside for me to give me a chance to fill in the student's forms for college that she needed for when the session finished that i was filling in there and then. And the staff member with the problem needed to clean and tidy up inside. Then who was going to do the circle time. All six children were happy outside and they were helping to tidy up. So she banged around mopping and sulking because as the Manager I had spoke…

Do others staff their settings like we do...I am the manager but I don't work every day, I have one day off per week to study. One of the deputies leads the session. During the autumn term when numbers are lower we all take a cut in hours, so that everyone has a reasonable number of hours to work each week, so I may not work an afternoon as well. In a telephone conversation with Ofsted today asking about how many named deputies we could have, I was told that if a deputy regularly leads the session in the manager's absence ie on a weekly basis they would need to be registered as a manager as well. Has anyone heard of this before? At the moment one deputy covers the…

I currently manage a village pre-school and we are really struggling to make ends meet. We are fortunate enough to have our own premises so we are not restricted to opening hours like many village settings. I am considering our options - having extended our opening hours until 1500 to fit in with the local school, take up has been reasonable but not extensive. I am now wondering if we should open until 1800 ? I do not want to turn into a nursery but cannot see any other way of increasing our register, I plan to continue to take 2 and over but am not sure where to start. Any advice would be very welcome

Hi, we have advertised on our website and with the current parents and those of the primary school we are in the grounds of. We have also added it to the council website. Where else can we advertise for free? Has anyone tried the network medium of netmums or local Facebook groups? Obviously we mention on our advert all our safeguarding procedures when employing new staff, I just wondered if anyone has tried it or has any views on it. Thanks

Hello, I have been a member of this forum for a long time now but have not posted for a while. I was just wondering if you lovely people had any ideas for tuff spot activities? Mainly malleable but any ideas gratefully accepted :-)

Hello All, Is it a statutory requirement for Nursery classes within a Primary School, to offer their 15 hours entitlement as a two and a half day attendence pattern? At present we have children attending, 5 mornings, 5 afternoons, or 2 and a half days. How many schools out there are offering full days as a statutory obligation? Thank you in anticipation.

Wondering if you knowledgeable people out there can help?......... I'm a Pre-school manager and somewhere in my grey matter think I have read/learnt/was informed that if a child requires antibiotics/penicillin administering four times a day, then they should not attend the setting. Can anybody clarify this point or enlighten me in any way as to whether this is true. Thank you in advance
