Hi I am in an area where there are plenty of pre school settings but little quality baby and toddler settings. I have always wanted to own my own nursery and wondered if anyone knows where to start? get help? I am even thinking of just opening for babies up to preschool age for now as many of the children go to preschools that are close or attached to the infant/prmairy schools they will be attending. Is this a mad idea? I am 5months pregnant maybe thats what is making me think these wild ambitious thoughts haha JR

Hi All, i know this may seem a rather silly thing to put on here for discussion and i know we all do what works best for ourselves ( or should do) but i am feeling quite overwhelmed with all my responsibilities at present - as those of you who know and read my posts i have not long been in the role of supervisor for long and so much needs to be done and it just seems there is just not enough time in the day/ week /term to get everything done -especially when i have my own family house to worry about too - don't want to neglect them or myself just need to balance -really my question is what works for you , how do prioritise , how much help do you ask for ( my downfall) …

Fire Door Question
by Guest- 1 reply

HI all we currently have the builders in at our setting re-furbishing and extending our pre-fab building, i have an issue with the fire door, this door also double as the outside play door and is open during a session for the children to free flow to the outside area, the problem i have is that the newly installed disabled toilet as the fire door inside the cubicle and the builders are telling me that they don have enough time to move it before we open on Mon. (got behind with the snow!) my question is, would this be allowed by Ofsted, Fire protection building? I know its far from ideal the builder tells me that they will move it at half term, but that…

We are a private Pre-School that at present rents a classroom, garden and carpark from our local primary school. We are heavily over subscribed (not complaining!), there is an adjoining classroom to ours that at present is used by the school as a music room. There is the possibility of renting this room removing the adjoining doors to create 2 rooms linked together by the toilets (door each end) main door between both rooms and the garden (both rooms have doors into our garden. We are hoping to increase from 26 per session to 40 per session, I have spoken to Ofsted who have sent me a variation form to complete, they are saying they would not need to come out to check new …

Ey-Essentials Pla Software
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I have been looking at new nursery management software. Particularly something that calculates invoices including the current 15 hours of funding. The software I have currently dosen`t do this and doing it by hand is driving me mad! Looked at many and found lots are very expensive. As a PLA member found their software very reasonably priced. Was wondering if anyone else uses it and would be willing to share their experience with it. Thanks

Hi, First post I've made for a very long time & I apologise in advance for the length of it. I have a Deputy (there are two others) who had an accident at work in July. She slipped and fell on wet grass in our garden, broke her ankle quite badly but has been out of hospital for 3.5 months and at home. She has not left her house (or even been upstairs within her house) for the 3.5 months. The ankle is completely healed but her mobility is virtually none. She uses a zimmer frame but has not managed with crutches so far. She has steps out from her house to street level. She is now getting a physio come to her house once a week and is starting to do some exercises…

Well, had a trustees meeting last night to discuss pay review. I manage a charitable pre-school run by a management committee of trustees. A condition of my employment was that I undertook EYP. I’m currently doing the BA in Early Years. Staff have not had a pay rise for 3 years and I have not had my level 5 acknowledged. Fees are currently £4.00 per hour and I would like to increase them to £4.50 per hour from September in an attempt to try to make some provision for more pay. Any surplus over the past few years has gone into the bank to cover depreciation of our building which the trustees have valued over pay. Increasing fees to £4.50 per hour would put us …

And what a long wait it has seemed!! But well worth it! - we got outstanding in every area! And this morning all the staff came in - and we greeted the children and parents with a big display we photographed last week of the children sat on the grass spellling out "we are outstanding" and hung up all along the front of the building! I'm so thrilled for everyone because it's been hard work getting where we are - and the day of the OFSTED inspection was my first day in after recovering from meningitis!! Just had to share! :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b :1b

Hello all I am just about to update our prospectus and wanted to really give it a good old make-over. I wondered if any of you know of a really fab one that you either use or have seen. I am tired of the same old clip art being used and wanted it too look fun and funky! Is that possible with a prospectus I wonder? Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Hi all, I opened a palygroup in a small village in september and it hasn't really took off- we still only have 6 children on roll and 3 down to start in september. I think if things stay the way we are we will be ok for next year but will have to close next summer (2013) when these children go to school. So I am looking for advice on whether you think I should open another playgroup somewhere else straight after this one closes, before this one closes or wait a while? Do you think its too early to start looking for somewhere else to start another one? It took months to get registered with ofsted so I am thinking start early. What is the best way to research …
