At the moment in my setting we have 4 rooms. under 1's, under 2's, toddlers and pre-school, i am wondering if anybody has flexble rules when a child moves up into the next room. at the moment i use a window of anytime between 2 months before their birthday - 2 months after but i am having lots of problems. i use the following in making my decision: The age of the child and the development of the child through observations and tracking and evaluating the childs progress termly. i have recently had a parent requesting for her child to be moved into the next room 4 months early because she thinks her child …

Hi We opened in september and I feel it would be really good to introduce myself and the setting to the schools in the local area that our children will move onto, to start the link between us and them. Has anyone got any advise on the best way to start this link with them?

It's been a while since we discussed this, but I was approached by a parent this week to ask if we accepted these. So what I'd like to know please, is does anyone recommend any particular ones, are there any we should avoid like the plague, and in general has the system 'bedded down' better than it was at one point?

Manager Problems

I have a huge problem, a manager who won't manage! This person speaks to people like they are idiots, questions constantly why staff are doing things (all level, 3, 4, and beyond up to eyps and qts) is very unprofessional. She constantly changes her mind about things, often within minutes, and staff are so fed up. I am deputy, but she treats me like a fool. The owner of the nursery is constantly in checking up on things, and he is not happy with the way things are being done. However, he is good friends with the manager! Surely it is the mangers job to ensure the smooth running of things? The staff will not approach her, and come to me with most things. We just wish she…

Hi We have recently opened a playgroup and are really struggling to rasie funds and get children in. Do you think we may benefit from changing to a charity instead of a private business? Also, what is involved in changing to a charity and what to we need to do to be considered as a charity. Thanks

Sorry this may be long but have a few issues/questions that I would like some advice on please. Firstly as a few of you's may remember I had issues with my deputy. They have managed to make her step down but haven't yet given me a new deputy and won't until I return from my maternity leave. Do I need a named deputy or is it enough just for me to have a designated staff member that can step up in my absence? Secondly our policy when I started stated that either myself or deputy had to be onsite. If neither of us was available then the setting needed to close. Is this good practice or is it legislation? I have never been able to find an answer as to why the policy w…

Questionnaire To Parent/carers Regarding The Nursery
by Guest colechin- 4 replies

Hi all, I would like to send a simple question out to parent/carers to rate the service we provide for them and their children. Before I embark on this task, does any out there already do something like this? If so could i have a look at one and see what questions you ask. I would also like to give all parent/carers a quick form for them to fill out at home, after they have seen their child's key-worker for their termly meeting. Asking questions like: do you feel your key-worker knows your child, are you happy with how the meeting went etc, etc, etc. Hope someone out there can be of help to me.

Hi Everyone We have had a child start with us last week age 2 years 6 months, and we are having quite a few problems with behaviour!! This particular child has no other children in immediate family, there is no eye contact, no recognition of right from wrong, falls over no tears, but the main thing is the behaviour to other children!! Scratching faces, pulling hair out, strangling to name but a few!! It takes two members of staff to pull the child off!! There is no patteern to the outbursts they appear to be random and it can be to any child male or female! Have spoken to parents (on a daily basis!) only to be told this always happened at mother & toddler (no men…
