Hi We have organised a day trip to a local farm. I've got all permission forms etc. sorted. However, today I recieved information from the bus company to say that they do not provide carseats. All of our children are 2yrs old. My first thought was to ask parents to send a carseat for their child. What would you do? Thanks

I know I'm being a bit lazy, and should look it up myself- but can anyone tell me how long you need to be off work for SSP to come in? I have a staff member that's been off 3 days, and I'm trying to work out if she'd be better off having a fourth day off. On this day she only works a few hours anyway, and as we don't get paid when we're off, she might be able to claim SSP. She has been genuinely I'll, and I just feel we get such low pay anyway. Xx

Qualification's Acceptable

Hi there, Does anyone know where I could find a list of qualifications that are recogniseable in caring for the early years (pre-school age)? Sorry, I'm recruiting and have a whole load of applicants, many of whom have amazing quals, but I think many are borderline as to whether they would be recognised. All suggestions welcome, Spiral :-)

We are so close to getting our new building and setting up as a day nursery HOWEVER.... our prospective landlords are getting cold feet over the costs. We have agreed to do all internal work and they have agreed to replace the windows, and do up the outside of the building, including fencing, tidying up etc. I had an email to say that they are waiting for a quote for the windows and doors and that it seems like this is going to be expensive and I get the impression they are thinking of withdrawing their offer... we would be absolutely devasted if this happened! We are hopefully getting a small grant from our local authority for refurbishing the toilets, but that is it…

Hi all Well the girl covering maternity leave (on temp contract until 15 June) has just told us (unofficially) she is pregnant (not sure how far). Anyone know where we stand now? I know we still have to give reasonable time off for appointments etc but what happens when her contract ends? Will we then have to pay her maternity pay when eventually she has the baby? A bit onfused about this one!

Hi We are currently being validated for 3/4yr old funding and we are looking at opening for a full day per week. Do we have to have a space inbetweeen sessions with no children or can we have a session that is say 9am-3pm and children bring a packed lunch? Sorry if this has been asked before but it's all new to me! Thanks

We are a small village sessional pre-school who have to get out and pack away all our equipment every day. We are in the process of reviewing our contracts of employment. We work term times only and staff are all part time. Would anyone be willing to share a sample of their contracts with me to help me ensure I cover all the areas required. We are not in the PLA and our old contracts are archaic (long standing established team but recruiting new staff members hence the need to update). Many thanks.

I want (need!) to start doing back to work interviews following periods of absence through sickness, & thought a good way to record them would be an A4 sheet per employee, name & dated started in post at the top then a table to record: start of absence; returned to work; notified? (space to record how, frequency); need to inform others of nature of sickness? (eg, if it's a notifiable disease, chicken pox, etc); back to work interview (record who did it & when); any accomodations needed? Then space ay the bottom of the sheet to record any review etc needed, What do others do? Can you think of anything I've missed? Interviews to ne carried …
