I've just been appointed joint manager of the preschool I've been in for 13 years, following the sudden death last year of our old manager who'd been the manager when I started in the preschool - and I'm now the longest serving member of staff. The other manager has to give notice where she's currently working so can't start till mid March. Our timetable doesn't work well at the moment, and I don't want to wait till the other manager takes up post before we start to think about how to change it - I think we're going to have to try things out and will probably not get to a really good working timetable until the end of the summer term/start of the autumn. And then we…

Not sure where was the best place to post this thread so moderators feel free to move it. There is currently a thread running about flour play. I have mentioned my concerns there but don't want to hijack the thread fully and thought it would be better to make these resources available under their own thread for future reference. I have a personal interest having nearly lost my youngest daughter again to asthma at the new year . The adult next to her in major resus did not make it. Twice she has been hospitalised following something happening at school because staff were ill informed and did not understand how serious asthma can be. 11% Only of pre-school workers s…

Hi all Well building works at school mean that over the easter holidays there may not be any electric or heating so we are thinking school club may close. One committee member has suggested that we see if we can move to village hall. I was under the impression that we would have to stick to our registered premises for OFSTED. Anyone else been in this situation? Just wondered if it was a possibility before I see Head next week. Thanks

I just wanted to check other people's opinion as I am both worried and very angry with the attitude of other professionals. I had member of staff didn't turn up one day for work and got another family member to phone up for them and give some vague excuse about why they were not in. Later that day I received a sick note giving the staff member 4 weeks off - no call from the employee - which is against company policy. The reason on the sick note was very vague and didn't actually say what was wrong with her. I then found out she is actually off with a mental health issue, but this was only via another staff member who had spoken to her. I phoned up the Practi…

Hi I am very new to learning journey's and was just wondering do you have to have next steps for all observations, photo's, pieces of work etc. that go in the learning journey? It seems like a lot of next steps to plan and provide? We do link everything to the EYFS but is this enough and how much does need to have next steps? Thanks

Hi all Well just been told by school (so not got much info!) that over the easter holidays there will be no electricity. Not told for how long etc. Im now trying to think just exactly how this will affect the holiday club. No lights - maybe have to close early? What if it was raining/gloomy??!!! Lots of battery operated torches? No cooking facilities - could do fruit/veg/cold snack Not sure if fire alarms/smoke alarms would work?? No fridge for food storage Not sure if the telephone would work... its one of those that connects to a unit to answermachine? Door alarms/cctv will not work Heating should be ok Toilets ok Is there something I may have missed…

Hi folk, I know this has been covered on here before, as I remember reading posts, but my searching skills have failed me so if anyone could help me out I'd be grateful. Well, we've reached the time of year again where we lose one committee and gain another and the constant change is really frustrating, people just get used to working in one way and along comes another committee and it's back to square one... anyway enough of my rant... I read on here about settings that wanted to stop being committee led, but stay as a charity and instead be run by a group of constant trustees. Basically, what I want to know is has anyone successfully switched status and if so do…

Just wondered if people have any words of wisdom reference holidays. Our contract state that we aren't allowed holidays during term time. We are paid for the statutory 5.6 wks holiday pay, other than that we don't get paid for any time off. I have a member of staff who continually books her holidays during term time, whilst part of me thinks seeing as we don't get paid then there's not a lot we can do but another part of me thinks No this is not fair what if we all did it. We have to try and get someone to cover and basically it is inconvenient to the setting. What do you all think?
