We have a child who attends our provision 3 mornings a week. The child's behaviour has always been challenging but we have managed it, however this term the behaviour and hitting staff and children is increasing. we have done abservations, outside agency has been in to observe, parent has been in for several meetings to discuss how we work this situation.. We have put several strategies in place to help the child. we are waiting for one to one funding although this will only cover 8 hours. the other children in the setting are frightened of the child and visible shrink when they are approached by the child concerned. i have also had 3 pare…

I am just embarking on our safeguarding audit and am a little confused. Do I need to notify Ofsted of new staff? Will an email suffice if so? "Ofsted must also be notified of any new staff via an EY2 form, or change via an EY3 form" but it's not clear on the form whether this applies to all new staff. I thought EY2s were only for VMC members, Trustees, owners, etc., and EY3 was for the nominated person.

Hi all I am just preempting that the weather men have this snow forecast for later in the week correct and wondering what you all do about deciding to stay open or close and the problems this raises (thankfully very rarely) regard paying staff who don't/can't get in, snow days in pre-school are fun but we've always had enough staff now we have half staff who could easily get in and half that live away, but is it fair that they still get paid to stay at home, rather than loose pay or a days holiday it could be banked to cover training, meetings etc..., we wouldn't want anyone driving if conditions are dangerous but on the other hand is it the settings problem they liv…

So today started with a half hour journey taking over an hour to get to work, a member of staff querying her Nov 2017 payslip, counselling a parent who funny enough is trying to cope with foundation degree training in early years whilst trying to hold down a job and two children under ten, managing a staff team that need a rocket up their a***e for motivation., Tried to plead for an increase in my budget, dealt with a staff member have bad monthlies who felt like she could faint, a pregnant staff member ( very young) worrying about a scan, scarlet fever in the setting, salad gone off so trip to local shop for more half hour before dinner was due to be served. tried to do…

Hi All Bit of a tricky one. Member of staff handed in their notice and asked to leave a week earlier than their notice period. We agreed as understood they were having a tough time, they said they had another job. They left last Friday, very quiet, didn't want a fuss. Fast forward five days later and they've called asking for their job back as they were struggling with a family bereavement and really loved their job. We did begin recruting but only have a few application forms. Thoughts? Staff has worked there many years, has had a few personal troubles. I was thinking a meeting with her and manager to discuss her reasons for resignation and…

Since Ofsted are bringing the online submission of the SEF to an end we need to consider where we are left in terms of self-evaluation as it remains a requirement to plan, act, review and reflect on our provision for children. The inspection handbook tells us that inspectors will: "obtain evidence of: the effectiveness of self-evaluation, including contributions from parents, carers and other stakeholders whether leaders have implemented well-focused improvement plans through engagement with staff, children, parents and carers" To be judged 'Outstanding' in the Leadership and Management area Inspectors need to see the provider demonstrate an in-dep…
