I'm desperately trying to stay calm and not too excited but just had a meeting with the head of our local school with a view to building a nursery there and she is VERY excited about it, she said I need to go off and find what funding or grants are available. I know I can apply to the big lottery fund but can anyone tell me of any others they know of please? They have a governors meeting this friday and I was hoping to be able to get some kind of details before then Also has anyone been through this process and would be able to answer some more questions I have please? how did they go about finding out how much it would cost to build, estimating rent, yearly …

Hi everyone I have just taken on a job as Nursery Manager for a new setting owned by two registered childminders wishing to expand into daycare on a larger scale. Currently we have two qualified (L4 and 5) staff and one unqualified. How do I plan the owners themselves into the ratios? Can they be counted as qualified, without any other recognised qualifications? Or should they be regarded as 'unqualified'? Help please! Lesley

Hi I was wondering how often other settings are having staff meetings to discuss planning etc, i know that the EYFS is all about all staff planning together to put ideas for planning forward etc but we are presently meeting weekly and we pay our staff for this meeting, but when money is short in this economical climate i'm beginning to wonder whether we need to meet less or try otherways of everyone contributing ideas. what do others do? it's proving very costly!!!!

Hi all, I am faced with a great problem at the moment, a parent is going through a terrible illness at the moment without saying much it is really bad. The problem is their child comes to the nursery fulltime, but with one income they are finding it difficult to pay fees. I have and others have contacted various bodies, but the same answer cuts no money. I have informed them that the fees is rising and they have to come to a decison, felt really bad, because the child coming to the nursery is a respite for both parents, and also child had SEN, which we get help for. Felt really bad telling Dad, he might have to withdraw child, up till now they were good payers, but i …

Hi all, I wonder if anyone could give advice here. We have a very large Nursery with 1 teacher and 3 key workers. The key workers come into work when the children come in and leave when the children do. Our budget and support hours have been cut by the head dramatically. The key workers have never been overly enthusiastic about their role and do not seem to want to put anything into the role except the minimum. They are now unhappy about gaining info for inclusion wheels, planning cycle. The teacher carries out all planning and assessment and the key workers sometimes do not even get their groupwork resources ready until they come to grouptime which ends up being c…

We have recently been Montessori accreditated. Our recommendations were to implement Management and Peer observations. We have read only a few articles on this and would like some advice on the above. Does anyone have any ideas or formats on Management and Peer observations. Thank you for your help in advance.
