I wondered if anyone had come across this condition in their experience whilst working with early years children. Any information or support group websites would be most welcome. Thank you. dottyp

Any ideas what to say to a family who do not want their daughter to play on a bike, scooter, climb etc as she has had far too 'many accidents' - in fact the last one involved falling from a scooter and grazing her cheek- which the family think is unacceptable ?

Hi was just reading another thread on funding and it mentioned inset days. Do you as pre-schools term time only not open on inset days? We are based in a secondaryschool who have differnt inset days when compared to the local infant school and junior school. Theinfant and junior normally have the same inset days and they work tog on this. The pre-school I work at open on all inset days (chair is very firm on this)..bit of a nightmare for some of the staff with chldren at the schools to get childcare. Does the setting get funding for this ie through the funded children still? If you close inset dyas do your staff still go in for training or.....? Or do the…

I know what the minimum adult/child ratios are, but just wondered what ratios other groups work to - how close to the minimum ratios do you work? I have been looking at the bookings for January and we're getting a bit close to the wire for my liking, but I know I'll have a battle on my hands if I ask the committee for more staff as we're still legally okay. There's a huge difference between what's legal, and what's good for the children though!

Hi, Our current SENCo also my Deputy is expecting a baby in April next year, but hopes to work to the beginning of the Easter hols. Have asked advice from the PSDO and she says we need to have someone else trained up in the SENCo role, but in reality how many of you have done that. Our current SENCo is fairly local, hopes to come in regularly and wants to return to work as soon as maternity leave is up. What should we do? Rachel

we recently moved into a modular building on a school site, but stayed independent to the school, we've now had the valuation officer turn up can anyone else in this situation tell me if they pay council tax and approx monthly charge as we really weren't expecting this, not sure if being a reg charity makes any difference. thanks

can anyone shed some light on this ? i know there was talk about it -but as we didnt accept 2 yr olds i kinda filtered that info into the 'dont need to know' pile we were told last week we would be accepting 2 yr olds - so im assuming i will be having to do developmental checks too ?? is this alongside the 'development matters' ?? is this a national thing or just regional (gloucestershire) ??

Hi, Can I ask all of you out there if you charge a different hourly/sessional rate depending on the child's age? We currently take children from 21/2 but are considering opening sessions to two year olds. We are registered for two year olds already but being a one room pack away setting have never taken them in before. Current hourly fees are £3.25/hour. Thanks Rachel

What more can I possibly do to get a key person to follow the setting's planning, observe her key children and basically do her job? I am at my wits end! This member of staff did level 2 training 8 years ago, she began the cwdc level 3 training last september but gave up by Christmas! No matter how much time my deputy and myself sit down with her to explain the planning it just doesn't seem to go in. It seems so unfair that her group of children are suffering, she doesnt know them, pulls them around by their arms (yes I certainly did address this) constantly questions them "whats this colour?" "How many is there?" "What is that number"? I don't know what to …

ok - the commitee asked us a few weeks ago about a christmas trip. they told us we would not be paid, and they would not be organising a mini bus -and would ask parents to transport children ( both their own children plus any others ). we had concerns regarding this - firstly staff do not want to give up their day off to come on the trip unpaid, we are not happy about children being transported by parents (especially if its not their own parent , and its quite a distance...approx 35 miles) and the playgroup funds are to be used to pay for the tickets. so, we left it at that. today a poster went up in the entrance hall , asking parents to indicate if their child w…
