Morning all, All the beautiful snow has been washed away in London! The staff (and children ) loved it last week. Wonder if anyone can help me, I have a member of staff who came via an agency, she has a Degree in Social and Cultural Educator (from Italy) which has been considered/comparable to British Bachelor (honours) degree by the National Recognition Information Centre. However she has no knowledge of the EYFS and this is her first childcare position in the UK. Couple of questions..... 1. Do you think I should get her to do a Level 3 course (on-line) to cover the EYFS/Ofsted requirements etc or just a 1-3 day course covering the basic's? 2. S…

Hello all, Just wondered if anyone has a policy about staff wearing these, I have a few staff that got these items for Christmas and want to wear them at work - to count steps etc.! However, I understand some of them link to the internet and therefore am not sure what rules to put in place regarding their use.

Hi! As manager of a charity run pre-school, I was just wondering how many of you faced parents asking for refunds when you have been closed for snow days? This week we have been closed for 1 day, opened yesterday (3 children but had staff who could walk in) and are open again today. We've had a number of parents (including one who kept her child away yesterday despite us being open) asking for refunds. Our unexpected closure policy states that we will only refund sessions if we are closed for more than 3 continuous days, but one parent in particular is saying that she refuses to pay for Tuesday's session. What are your policies/ procedures on this? Thank…

Hi - can anyone tell me what qualifications are needed/ criteria need to be met to manage a setting these days ? I've read EYFS Statutory Framework and can only see that in sect 3.23 "In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant level 3............The manager must have at least two years experience of working in an early years setting.........." and basically that they must have a competent deputy. When I spoke to my local EY team, they told me that it must be someone who was an EYT or equally qualified.......I cant find this criteria anywhere. Anybody know anything different ? I have some QTS's working in the setting but these ar…

Hi I am currently recruiting for a Level 2 practitioner and have had someone apply who has a childminding qualification, it's an NCFE CACHE level 3 in preparing to work in home based childcare (2016). I have checked on the government checker and can't for the life of me figure out if she can be counted in the ratios in our setting. Can anybody help? TIA

Hi Sorry if Ive posted in the wrong section I'm new to this really ha ha, I'm wanting some advice... my deputy has had a phone call from OFSTED to ask if she had a health check form completed by her doctor, she has been Deputy for nearly 4 years and worked in the setting for around 9 years, I as the manger have completed this form but we are puzzled as to why now she is being asked to do one, this also co-insides with her having a knee problem but this doesn't effect her job other than she can't run around easily but has seeked medical attention and is still able to work , we are wondering if its just normal practice carried out by OFSTED or has someone reported he…

We currently pay a book keeper who submits our wages through payroll, pays all the HMRC stuff and does all the book keeping accounts for us. Unfortunately we have just had to pay a fine (£500) to HMRC because she was not filing our returns on time. This also happened back in 2015 where we ended up paying a smaller fine. At a committee meeting today this all came to a head and basically we are going to ask her to get professional indemnity insurance or we will not use her any more. I do everything else to do with finances, pensions, balancing bank accounts etc and was wondering if it is something that I can take on? Would be really interested in hearing how everyone e…

Can anyone offer advise? The pre-school which I work for are looking at the idea of setting up a holiday club in the holidays. We have the space and such a wonderful large outdoor area. Please can anyone suggest what we need to do to get started, do we need to do a new registration with Ofsted? ( I take it we would need to do that) We are thinking of providing this for the ages of 5yrs - 10yr ( what would the ratio's be?) Any other things to take into account? Many thanks
