Hi all Well i am chair of committee of out of school club. Just been called by a parent. His son (yr 6) is upset as one other lad at club was encouraging other older children to touch the younger children in "inappropriate ways". Have reassured parent that this will be investigated thoroughly, asked if he can get me a written report who, where etc etc. Have quized one staff (still trying to get in touch with deputy who was leading session) about the session, without revealing anything. Once i get this report I know i have to get the main child and parent in to get his side of story etc but how far do i go? Do i get those that may have been affected ie older an…

I am after some opinions on resources that are out out on tables in our setting, for instance we have a maths area where sorting sets may be put out for example. Quite a few of the children like to mix and match the resources which we encourage however a member of staff struggles to except that the camels from the sorting set may find their way into the role play for a tea party. Now obviously as part of the EYFS this is perfectly acceptable, however the member of staff has said that there is nothing left on the tables for other children to access as everything has been moved off of the tables! Now I can sort of understand where she is coming from as there are a particula…

Sorry in advance this is going to be a long post!!!! Since starting my post in 2009 I have repeatedly put in around 20 to 30 hours extra to the 20 I get paid at home. This is to bring the setting upto a decent standard now I don't know why I bother. I don't get paid for them despite asking and when the children are in I have to be with them so no time for admin etc hence it all being done in my own time. Really reached the end of my tether and don't know what to do next!!! I have ongoing issues with deputy not pulling her weight. Asked her to step down and she won't. Now discovered that my best staff member is leaving partly because of her though haven't go…

Hi all Its a school club, well holiday club question. We have a boy that started to come during the holidays for 2 days per holiday week. He needs one to one and has always previoulsy been funded ie they pay for the session and pay the staff wages (Breaks in Partnership). For some reason they will not be funding the xmas holidays. Mum still wants him to come for 2 days and will pay herself (still trying to find out why she cant get funding) for the sessions and staff wages. Cost will be about £100. What do you think of this? Any advice? Just need to check what others think before we proceed. Thanks all

hi all - ive been racking my brains during this past week, have been told by commitee that we are loosing money, and things need to change. we have been having meetings for approx 12 months -this comes up every time -and we have told them that as well as cutting costs -they should look at ways of increasing revenue. they have said they will do this, that and the other -but find it easier to cut our hours. our session rate (per 3 hours) is at £7.50 -with a predicted increase in jan to £8.00. numbers of children are low -we are on minimum ratio -we have cut the quetist session and those children have moved onto one of our other sessions. a breakfast club uses our premise…

Hello all... I just wondered if anyone out there can help me? We are a maintained nursery attached to an infants school. This is our second year that we are delivering the 15 hours over 2.5 days; however, we feel that for many children in our care that this set up is not the best(lots of reasons that I won't go into here - the parents said last year that they found it better for themselves). We have looked over and over again at the timings if we were to return to the a.m and p.m session and just can't seem to see the way forward... these are some of the reasons why we couldn't do the a.m and p.m sessions . the timings don't fit around school times nursery star…

I have been working for six hours today, typing up some observations on a child I have concerns about - planning for the first week back, updating staff rotas etc etc - I worked fours on Monday and I am so fed up with the monotonous mountain of work that I always have to do....Im not very good at delegation but not one of my staff would do what I do, I will probably claim a couple of hours extra for all this work as I know we are tight for money, we paid sick leave, full pay for a member of staff for 4 months last term - I am feeling bitter, undervalued and fed up but you know what its always the same, term in, term out - I have to get out!!

Membership Of The Pla

Hi, I am wondering what opinions everyone has about membership of the PLA. We have been looking at a change to our managment and the PLA have stopped both of our planned options (becomming a community interest company and reducing the requirement for parents on the committee) so I am wondering if anyone is running a setting that is not a member of the PLA or is not using the PLA constitution. If anyone has any thoughts on the pro's and con's of moving away from the PLA I would love to hear them. Thanks Lisa
