I am looking for some advice please - A parent has asked for advice in the best way to tell their child that mummy no longer has a baby in her tummy. This is very sad news. The child is a preschooler and was well aware of the pregnancy and is a very clued-up little boy. We have books to cover bereavement but not miscarriage specific. Any advice welcomed x

A member of staff has complained that she doesn't get a coffee break when working 3.5hrs a day (9 - 12.30pm). I allow staff to make unlimited cups of coffee in the kitchen and pop out for quick sips throughout the morning. Can anyone please share how they organise their day enabling staff to have a hot drink! dottyp

Hi there... I know that this topic has been covered many times before, but I wanted to ask about staffing for toileting. We have a solid Personal Care policy that is in place in our Foundation Stage, and during normal classroom hours, this is working well. If a child is wet or soiled, their key person will change them and subsequently report to parents. The issue that we're having is with lunchtimes. What procedures do you have in place for lunchtimes, when teaching staff and TAs are on lunch breaks? In Reception, my TAs do dinner duties too, so it works out okay, but for Nursery, there are several lunchtime organisers (specifically for Nursery) who do not …

was told today that it would be ok to have an untrained inexperienced person as my assistant, despite my insisting that as they would be making up the remaing 50% of the staff they would need to be L2 -especially as there will only be 2 of us..... i asked if they had read the statutory requirements.....only to be told that no they hadnt, but they are only guidelines and dont need to be ridgidly stuck too....... then i was also told by the other half of this comedy duo that they had never read the policies, didnt know where they were and they were only guidelines too...... this was my chair and co chair of 18 months needless to say a copy of the statutory requirment…

Hi, I have been discussing introducing a bonus scheme for staff with my director and wondered if anyone does anything similar? We have outlined areas such as room organisation, sick days, paperwork completion etc... so far. Really want it to be an incentive for people to work as hard as they possibly can! Any ideas would be great, Thanks!

Anyone Working With Family?

My mother and I opened a setting back in 2006, my mum had the qualifications but little experience in childcare, and NO experience in management, whereas I was working as an area manager for a nursery chain before opening Cookie Jar. I did everything to start up the setting, all the policies & procedures, paperwork, everything with Ofsted ETC ETC, in 2008 (the setting was running beautifully) I left to manage a large failing nursery (the challenge tempted me), in the time that I was gone the standards back at the Cookie Jar slipped dramatically, in June the LEA carried out a quality review and judged the setting at a 3a, it was decided that I would return on an interi…

I am having trouble with a member of my staff who seems to have took it upon herself to be responsible for displays. I don't have a problem with her doing this but we keep conflicting over how displays should look - she always has to have everything laminated and looking like a finished product eg pictures of flowers have to look like flowers or they don't get displayed. I know that the main point of displays is that they should be the childrens creations not an adult masterpiece but she doesn't or won't understand this. Does anyone know of any articles or researcxh etc I could get her to look at because I have been trying for years now and nothing is getting through
