Family Grouping
by Guest- 25 replies

Hi, I am a QTS at a Children's Centre and the Day Nursery are considering changing from Under 2s rooms, 2-3s room and 3+ room to a mixed setting. Each key person will have a mixed-age family group rather than an age-specific group. I am wondering if there are others out there, already running this system who might have experiences to share (and maybe some research because neither myself or the nursery manage have been able to find very much by Googling on the benefits of this way of working). Thanks Sherry

I have a parent whose child attends twice a week, this parent doesn't drive and has to walk to our setting (approx 1.5 miles), she has said after half term she would like to drop 1 day until March then increase back to 2 when the weather improves! I do have a waiting list so really not sure what to say to her, as obviously I will lose income between November & March! Do I have to keep his day, I am a private Pre-School so I'm assuming not. Any suggestions. Kris

Hi All, I am looking for two weather signs for our board frost and fog. Sparkle box have them but they print off to big. Also we have golden rules up on our board such as good walking, indoor voices etc. I want to make small ones and laminate them and send one out with each child so that their parents can go over them at home. But I don't know where to get the small ones. Got big ones off of sparkle box. I am in a preschool, any ideas for both of these things. thank you Dorinda

Form Ey3

Can anyone tell me when an EY3 needs to be completed. My deputy, who is acting leader at present, says we need to complete one. Our Chair (yes she prefers to be a chair rather than a chairman) sent a query to OFSTED but their response was to copy and paste the piece from their website that she was asking for clarification on! Helpful. Situation is that I am off sick again, there is an acting leader and a team of 2 acting deputies. A member of staff has been taken on on a tempory contract to cover my absence. We have also made a slight change to opening hours adding a lunch club one day a week. So do we need to do an EY3?

Level 3 On Site?
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi, at one time if you were training for a level 3 you were able to supervise a session without a level 3 on site, as long as you were working towards the level 3 - does this still apply - I have myself a situation where I need to be out, my deputy is not available and my next two senior members of staff are both working towards level 3 - can I legally leave one of them in charge? I have asked my local early years advisors - three times and not had a reply...helpful bunch!

Hello I could really do with some advice. Our Administrator gave her notice today and I have the chance as manager to take over the 4 hours of her job and her duties of staff wages for 4, preparing, issuing and banking children's fees, paying bills, sorting new starters and general admin for the pre-school etc. Her heart has not been in the job for a while and myself and my staff have had to sort a lot of her mistakes over the last 3 months. We weren't shocked really when she gave her notice as we thought it was on the cards as she was suppose to come into the setting at least once a week but lately it can be up to two week between seeing her. So the big question is do we…

As you may know I have just opened a pre-school. I have been approached by a parent who is not happy with the pre-school her daughter attends and would like to move her to mine. However, we run sessions from 9-12 and this parent works and could not pick up til about 12:20. She has offered to pay for the extra time but I am not sure whether we are 'allowed' to do this in terms of ofsted etc. It seems a shame to let her go as we are desperate fot children and she wants a session everyday and there is no where else she could take her as we are a small village and it would mean her travelling too far. I did think of starting up a lunch club so that the child was…
