Hi - Im having a good look at our snack bar and trying to increase independence. The one thing Im struggling to find is a good way for the children to pour their own water or milk as most jugs are heavy and they find aiming difficult > I want them to be able to pour their own drink - any good jugs/containers which would make this easier????

Help: Gross Misconduct 1 2

What a day! Wonder if anyone has experience of dismissing staff member for gross misconduct. I have today suspended a staff member, pending investigation. Whilst investigating a parental complaint relating to performance it has come to my attention that a senior member of staff has seriously breached late collection and safeguarding policies. I am aware of my disciplinary procedures and know the steps I have to take. It states the standard gross misconduct examples such as theft, violence etc. To my mind compromising the safety of a child in the way she has IS gross misconduct but am struggling to find examples of this anywhere. Been one hell of a day and …

Hi all just wondered if anyone knew if there was a pay grade suggestion for us in early years. Have completed qualification and therefore I am now obviously a higher level and when I asked for a pay rise in recognition of this I was told to research how much I should now be getting paid but can't find any suggestions any where on line! Any ideas anyone? thank you

Sorry if this sounds daft - I went home from work at midday today - had a massive headache again - my level 3 (who is coming in some days - signed off sick but coming in to do degree stuff-I know mad-full pay) anyway back to my point - I went home and the level 3 went just after me telling other staff she had an appointment and shouldn't be there anyway - leaving the setting with two level 2s, two unqualified - 19 children - is this irresponsible or am I getting paranoid! I ring the committee to apologise (her son was in and she would of noticed pick up time) and she said "nevermind" I feel like I am being taken for such a mug - her coming in just to do Uni work is real…

Hi, This may seem like a silly question but how do you become a non-profit making pre-school? I am opening mine in September. I have set up a business bank account (does this mean I cannot be non-profit making?) I am not a committee run pre-school. I am running the pre-school by myself. Looking forward to your advice!!

hello everybody! I work within a setting that takes children from 6months to 12 years. The babies and toddlers are mixed but do have a divider for safety while across the hall the preschool and after school are mixed. My problem is that our waiting list has a massive demand for babies so management/committee want to combine the toddlers in with the older age ranges. Current staff have approached management about their concerns but are receiving a very autocratic response from them. There is not going to be a division of the room so how this will affect focus activity time as well as having age appropriate toys out i do not know. I'm having an image in my head of a y…

Is there such a thing lol? We are open, morning and afternoon, children have the choice to come to either session or stay all day, when we changed to this ofsted were fine with it and I asked the question as to whether we needed to have a break in between and they said no (stupidly I deleted the email reply from them!) BUT members of staff today have suddenly decided that they are sure it's against the law soooo does anyone know the answer please? as I'd like to go back tomorrow with the facts

On the whole we have lovely parents......... However the free funding just seems to cause so many problems and added stress. Am I the only person that sends out forms, asks about sessions etc, sorts out the waiting list- offer spaces, fill up sessions............ .............then during the last week have existing parents saying 'actually, I've been thinking and I'd like to 'up my sessions after-all and take the full 15 hours now' or 'I think I'd like the full 15 hours next April - but just 6 for now' I know they probably do not understand the system - and I do try to be understanding- but I just want to smack my head against a brick wall!!! I'd love…

We registered with capita to carry out crb checks and thought this was the correct way to be vetting all staff crb checks We recently had a reshuffle at preschool the existing deputy wanted to step down so we appointed an existing member of staff to the position of deputy she complete the ey2 form, references and sent it off along with her crb which was returned saying as of 2008 OfSTED is responsible for crb checks and she would need to redo her crb She was also sent the health declaration form which looking at it I've never done one either but I've been manager for 13+ years it's probably a more complicated version of some of the checks done years ago I've…
