Hi Can anyone help? After sending out a questionnaire to parents I feel we should drag ourselves out of the 1970's and change our opening hours. At the moment we do sessions 9am until 12am and 12.30pm until 3pm (half hour break at midday) I want to change to the parents having the option of 9am - 12am 9am - 1pm 12am -3pm 1pm until 3pm. Still at 38 weeks a year. I rang OFSTED today to check if our registration fee would change because of this and they said that we would still stay on the lower fee (Going up to £50ish) is this correct? Also we have PLA insurance does anyone know if that would change. I have tried reading t…

Hi everyone I am hoping from my description that someone understands what I am trying to say and can help me put it into words.. I feel the need to include a statement within our learning journals stating along the lines of that we can only 'tick' off the development matters that a child has achieved if we have witnessed in setting but appreciate that these may not be a true reflections of what they can do at home. This has come to light with the fact we don't have a computer so difficult to state whether a child is capable of operating a simple programme etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I just don't know where to start with the wording

I have had a member of staff call me to say she has shingles, she feels fine in herself and would like to come in on Monday. Am I right in thinking that as long as the area is covered then she is fine to do so as the contagious aspect is actual contact with the blister rather that air born like chicken pox? Kris

We are a small( but fully booked for the next year )pre-school in a small rural village. Myself and another lady are the leaders and are responsible for everything except finances. We have 13 key children each as none of the other staff are qualified. As you can imagine completing learning journeys and tracking charts takes quite a long time. As a pre-school we are very well off and have over £6000 in the bank. As leaders we are paid £7.60 but are wondering what the going rate is? We are both level 3s. My other question is; do any of you get paid for all the school holidays even half pay? Would love to hear from you to see what other people are getting.

Hi all Well had my parents round tonight and had a bit of a telling off (as parents do when they are concerned about their children!!)...its generally about the amountof work and effort I am putting ns as chair at school club as volunteer. I was talking about how much current manager is on £8.50 per hour compared to my £6.25 as pre-school assistant, how I am doing so much to support her etc etc. How I am trying to pass things down to her but there are issues cropping up all the time (had another call today about windows being left open at school over weekend due to club staff). They then said what if was to step down as chair what would happen? Would we get anyone? Las…

Hi all We are a private day nursery.Since sff, once the headcount date has passed we have to take any new children for free and do not receive funding at all for the rest of that term, if we have places still available.Does anyone else have to do this? Do any of you have parental agreement forms from your LA? We don't. There seems to be a real loop hole to me as any unscrupulous parent could theoretically try to get extra hours for free at several different settings (if settings were willing to offer etc) and there would be nothing to hilight this taking place officially. Also as we are not allowed to charge upon entry, we would have no guarantee that the child would s…

Okay jenpercy ...I'll repeat and expand my original post - and see what happens. I'm used to a small team but due to expansion I have got new staff in post who double the amount we had. I am now being told that staff are not happy. I am not by any stretch of the imagination a natural leader / manager..I struggle a lot with fitting into this role and I often wonder whether I should be in this role (which I kind of 'adopted' many years ago out of necessity.) I love what I do, I love being with the children but I find that I have no time to manage or lead (or to think much about how to go about it!) and it stresses me out knowing that I need to do it, want to be abl…

I have been quite fed up for a while - stressed, overworked etc - a job in the paper has caught my eye - Senior EYP in a local children's centre - it would be quite different to managing a nursery in that it is a lot of organising creche's and play sessions, multi-agency work etc - shall I apply ? I maybe need a change? It's more money? I do love where I am but it's just so stressful and so much out of hours work - it never eases off - I am responsible for everything and everyone and I feel tired - thoughts and comments appreciated .........
