Hi, This might sound like a stupid question but how do you get your own signature on to the computer to put onto documents such as a prospectus for pre-school so that you don't have to hand write it in each time? Thanks

Hi Well our newish manager (7 months in job) has just been called from OFSTED to say they are coming to do this next week. I did warn her months ago to expect it, told her to read up on welfare requirments, the sef, policies, risk assessments etc. She isnt feeling very confident about it and said to me "but I havent read that small book yet" (welfare requirments!!). Im just not sure how she is going to do. I also sent her what was said about the interview on this forum and what to expect. When we took her on she was a nursery nurse but no experience of running a club (she was the only suitable applicant after months of advertising. We were about to close. She took i…

We are hoping to add 4 children to the number we can take in a session. The Ofsted inspector offered us 28 when she measureed up our new premises but we panicked and said 24 because that was already a lot more than we had been taking. Now we are getting so busy that we probably need the extra 4 and need to do the variance form. They kindly emailed it to me but it seems pretty complicated. Has anyone done one of these and have any helpful hints, especially what to put in the Risk Assessment bit?

Silly question but we were on a course the other day and Glitter was mentioned, saying it should never be used with under threes. We are a pre-school 2-5 years now I would never give glitter to a baby but wondered what your thoughts were on use. Should it be a complete No No? and also would sand not do the same damage. They were saying if it gets in a child's eye it could do perminate damage? Now it is clearly not our practice to leave something like glitter as a free for all do what you like with it policy (sorry its just I am fed up with these silly over the top can't take a risk so ban it issues) Just your thoughts would be good before we end up with banning…

Anyone Using A Consultancy For H&s?
by Guest Spiral- 1 reply

Just wondering whether anyone uses a consultancy for their H&S which covers you if there are concerns, keeps you up to date with changes to the rules/law and provides free accident/incident etc books for you to download which are compliant with the rules & regs? I'm considering it, but it's costly - is it worth it? Spiral

We are a Pre-School who rent a classroom within a local primary school, the school is obviously registered with enviromental health and all our fridges etc are kept in the school kitchen. Do we need to register seperatly or are we covered under the school? We only provide snack for the children. Kris

Late Policy And Late Fees
by Guest- 12 replies

What do you do if children are picked up late from your setting? We have had two occasions this week where children have been picked up over an hour later after the pre school has closed. It cost us in staff costs and hall hire and today the situation nearly meant that we nearly had trouble picking up our own children. We really need to implement a policy quickly as to deter any other occasions arising and would appreciate knowing what other settings do. Thanks in advance

Hello All I am taking over as owner/manager of a very succesful nursery. The team seems supportive of the change, the parents too. Does anyone have any advice to support a smooth transition for staff, parents and the children. Needless to say I am looking forward to the challenge, but am a little scared at the same time. Thank you
